Youtube is another Google property that has seen changes in the recent past. A Youtube video page can be divided into specific content blocks that are more or less useful to the individual viewer.
The video pages display comments, related videos, video descriptions, ratings and footer links regularly. The videos have now usually show in-video advertisements and annotations as well.
Many Youtube visitors do not need most of these elements on the screen when they want to watch a video. Some users might prefer to see only the video on the page without any distractions while others might want to only get rid of Youtube ads and annotations while keeping the rest of the content present.

The Google Chrome extension Youtube Options provides the options to turn off specific Youtube content blocks so that they are not displayed on the video hosting portal.
The extension places an icon in the Chrome address bar if a Youtube video page is opened in the browser.
Clicking that link will open an image of how Youtube video pages look like. The user can then click on the elements to turn them off for that video.
Below is an image of a video where all elements on the page have been removed so that only the video, title and header remain.

More interesting for most users is the option to define what gets removed from the Youtube pages automatically. This is handled in the extension’s options.

The Youtube options provided by the extension are:
- Hide annotations
- Hide in-video ads
- Hide description (and user comments)
- Hide user comments
- Hide related videos sidebar
- Hide footer
- Disable auto-play
All options are enabled by default which means that blocks will not be shown once they have been selected by clicking on the icon in the address bar.
Information blocks that might be needed after watching the video, for instance to view the comments or related videos, can be enabled easily by clicking on the icon in the address bar.
Youtube Options gives the Google Chrome user an excellent tool at hand to manipulate what is shown on Youtube video pages.
