Imagine a race. A race between Microsoft and Crackers. Whenever Microsoft releases a new operating system that they say is absolutely secure and uncrackable some crackers find a way after days, weeks or even months. Vista was designed to be the first operating system that would not be copied en masse because of the way it had to be activated to function after a trial period. The first workarounds popped up pretty quickly buying time for the one real workaround to rule them all.
The weakness was first discovered by the famous (underground) group Paradox which discovered a way to emulate so called “Royality OEM2″ which require no activation at all. Those special OEM versions are only issued to major computer manufacturers such as Dell and Asus to take the hassle of activating the operating system away from their clients. These manufacturers embed license information into their hardware products which is equivalent to a online or phone registration.
This is called system-locked pre-installation 2.0 (SLP 2.0) and it consists of three key elements: (taken directly from the Paradox info file)
- The OEM’s hardware-embedded BIOS ACPI_SLIC information signed by Microsoft.
- A certificate issued by Microsoft that corresponds to the specific ACPI_SLIC information.
- A special type of product key that corresponds to the installed edition of Windows Vista.
“If all three elements match Windows Vista’s licensing mechanism considers the given installation a valid system-locked pre-activated copy (that does not require any additional product activation procedures).”
Which means they had to create a tool that would emulate an SLP 2.0 system fulfilling all three key elements. This process introduced by Paradox could be described as rather complex for the average user.
Thankfully a group called Clony created a one click activation from this information. The process would be the following:
- Install RTM or Retail Vista without product key
- Execute a single file and follow the instructions
- Reboot Windows Vista
Now this does not sound complicated at all, does it ? In case you are wondering where to get those activation files. I do not want to link directly to them because it could mean serious trouble.
Please rest assured that this method to bypass Vista activation does not tinker with your bios at all. It is a pure software emulation of a OEM bios.

hmmm..same old Microsoft.. and the crackers r really cool :-).
Martin , this really a nice find and fast news.thanks a lot!!!
The supported systems by Paradox are:
Acer
Asus
HP
Lenovo
Or so the nfo stated.
Dante you do not need a system from one of the big four players. They just emulate a bios but it does not matter which bios you actually have.
Yeah. Activation works. But the little wa nk@r has hidden a virus/trojan horse on it.
Problem: Windows could not boot, could not rescue because the rescue drive was corrupt; could not do a new install with Windows Vista Recovery; Could not do a NEW install with Vista Home Basic, Home Premium, or Ultimate. All DVDs were provided by Manufacturer as well as official Microsoft Install/Upgrade disks. Could not get to a recovery consol. Used Windows XP Install Disk. When it got to the part to select the drive to install, I deleted the corrupt windows recovery drive. There were other partitions of 800 MB and a 2Gig unknown partition. I then deleted the two unknown partitions and created one partition. I rebooted without the XP install cd. It booted to the login screen. When entering the OS, I was greeted by a statement indicating the Serial Key was invalid even though the installation was made at the factory and the serial key attached to the bottom of the laptop! Since I had files and programs, ALL PAID FOR at a premium price, I could not afford to loose my work. I tried to get support from Microsoft but was told I needed to purchase a Valid Genuine Windows OS.
I decided that Microsoft had defrauded me by providing a defective OS to the manufacturer, HP, and did not desire to honor the VALID and GENUINE Windows OS they provided. Therefore, I decided to go at it alone!
1) have a copy of SP1 for Vista available
2) Turn off wifi
3) select the “limited functionality” on the Screen telling you to enter a new serial key
4) The Activation screen will appear as well as IExplorer
5) Leave Activation screen on desktop, if you close it…you close to login
6) The IExplorer will stall because there is no wifi available
7) type the following in the address bar: \
8) A window will drop… select \windows
9) You willsee a new window “A website wants to open… select allow
10) A new window will open, go to search bar and type EXPLORER
11) Select Explorer (application)
You will now have a fully functional desktop…
DO NOT allow Windows Security Center to operate
DO NOT CLOSE THE ACTIVATION SCREEN!!!
Place your CD with Vista Service Pack 1 (SP1) into the CD/DVD drive
Install SP1
Your system will recover upon final reboot with all programs fully functional.
Immediately disable Microsoft update, if you need updates, you can get them online as a stand alone application.
Because I was disrespected by Microsoft, I decided to experiment with my other PAID IN FULL GENUINE VISTA OS/s. I installed OEM versions for Dell on Toshiba and vise versa. Both systems failed due to BIOS identification. Both were determined to be NON GENUINE and/or the serial key was identified as not valifd for the cd installation. I completed the same procedure as I listed above, and gained the same results. The system/s functioned without a problem even thouh the DELL and TOSHIBA OS/s switched places.
I understand that the same procedure WILL WORK even with a pirated copy of Vista, HOME,Premium, and Ultimate.
