It is sometimes necessary to start the desktop email client Outlook with startup parameters, usually to resolve issues or troubleshoot the program. It is for instance possible to use startup commands to reset certain program features.

System administrators and tech savvy users should not have difficulties finding a list of available shortcuts and adding them to the start of the email client. This can for instance be done using the command line, or by adding them to the program shortcut directly.

Everyone else may like the free portable software Outlook Parameter Gui which displays a list of all available parameters in its interface along with explanations and descriptions of what they do so that you only need to select the parameter you want to make use of from the menu.

The application scans the system for installed Microsoft Outlook versions and displays information about the one it finds in the interface. This includes the product ID, Outlook version or serial number. All startup parameters are listed in a pulldown menu at the top.

Here it is possible to select one item for the Outlook start. Each item is explained briefly after it has been selected by the user. You may want to browse all entries on first start and take a look at their description to get a better understanding of what they do and how they can assist you in the troubleshooting process. That's obviously not necessary if you know which command you need to start Outlook with.

The explanations are usually sufficient to understand the impact of the selected parameter. It is for instance possible to run Outlook without extensions, in Safe Mode which disables additional options, or to run a profile cleanup which removes invalid entries and recreates the default Registry keys where applicable.

Outlook Parameter GUI can also be handy to learn the different Microsoft Outlook startup parameters as it can be used as a reference. Interested users can download the Windows application from the developer's website.
