The popular game distribution platform Steam, much like Amazon, eBay and many other platforms, uses a regional store system that limits access to stores to users from supported regions. German, French or Dutch users cannot buy in the Russian or US store for instance, and the same is true for users from other regions.

Everyone is limited to a single store that they can make purchases in. While that is beneficial to the platform and companies, it is not for the user.

There are ways around this restriction which some users make use of to purchase games for a cheaper price.

To provide you with an example: the price of the game Metro: Last Night differs between €17.25 in Russia and €54.44 in Australia, that is three times as much. Russia is a special case and games bought in Russia are nowadays often blocked from being installed in other locations. The price of the game in the US store is still €15 cheaper than in Australia.

Steam All Region Price Checker is a browser extension for Chrome and Opera that is powered by a database maintained on the Steam Regional Price Checker website.

The extensions display price information automatically when you open a game's page on the official Steam store website.  The information are displayed in their location currencies by default which you can change in the preferences so that they are automatically converted into a selected currency.

Links point to all regional stores so that you can open individual store pages quickly with the help of the extension.  The extension works on all local Steam stores and displays its price overlay window automatically when the page loads. You can change that behavior as well in the program preferences so that it is only displayed when you invoke the option.

It is one thing to display the pricing information on Steam, another to find a way to buy a game in another Steam store and add it to your main account afterwards (via gifting usually). Another option is to simply use multiple accounts. While this may be problematic in regards to social interaction and quickly switching between games, it is probably the safest option that you have at your disposal.

The service website offers popular searches which you may find useful to discover popular (often discounted) games on Steam.
