Mydeskcity is a hugh, and I mean really huge, high quality wallpaper website that is not overloaded with advertisement like most of the other wallpaper websites out there. The only drawback that I could find is that this website is not in english but Chinese (?), at least I think it is Chinese. Navigating it is easy nevertheless: The thumbnails on the main page depict the theme of the category, clicking on one of the numbers above the thumbnail leads to the corresponding page of the category.
A new version of Microsofts upcoming Internet Explorer is available for everyone, this time it is the release candidate 1. Downloads are available for Windows XP service pack 2, Windows Server 2003 service pack 1 and Windows x64 editions. I´ve written a large article about Coral CDN just a few days ago. Here is a short introduction for those who might have missed this article. Several trade organisations including the Association of Independent Music (AIM), the Musicians' Union and the MCPS-PRS Alliance proposed that Internet Service Providers (ISPs) should be liable for illegal filesharing by their users. (which means that it would be possible to sue ISPs because of this liability)
Coral CDN (content distribution network) might be the solution if you can´t reach a website because it is either blocked by an administrator, slow or even completly unreachable. Filters and restrictions become more common on the internet. Schools and workplaces blocking access to unwanted sites and networks is a prime example. I can understand that a company does not want you to surf at websites like Ebay during worktime but what about breaks ? What if you are in school and some class did not take place and you would like to check your mail accounts ?

Let me introduce the smallest desktop search program available. Snowbird Xp is small, only 26K in size and fast at the same time. Just download and run it from whatever location you like. Snowbird does not index search results which has the advantage that you will always recieve up to date information. Some features have been updated in the new release, amongst them is the capability to search in word documents and excel spreadsheets.

Krunch is a nice little service that offers you the option to upload and compress files in three different formats (zip, rar and gzip). After compressing the file you have the option to download it for yourself and mail it to other recipients either with a download link to the file or directly as an attachment. The service offers the option to upload and decompress a compressed file in the formats zip, rar and tar.gz. It seems to have problems with my rar files though.
I found a nice little script that might be useful for some of you. The google image ripper script immediatly displays the full size images of your google image searches. As you know when you do the search google displays thumbnails of the images as results and you have to click on the thumbnails for the full size image.

Wikibooks is a great service that collects books that are freely available. The bookshelf (aka the listing of all available categories) provides links to categories like computing (and its subcategories like Programming languages) and Humanities and in those categories descriptions and links to those books. Firefox can now install the greased lightbox extension with requires greasemonkey for windows or creammonkey for macintosh and of course firefox.
The ExpressPdf website lets you convert word and excel documents as well as websites to pdf online. It´s easy and straightforward. All you need to do is select a document or a website url to convert, provide your email address and the new pdf will be sent to the email address.
When I look at my taskmanager I sometimes see filenames that I don´t know. What is that file gives you the answer to the question. It´s solely based on user submissions, just like wikipedia for instance. Just enter a filename and the following information will be displayed: Name, purpose, description and if its safe or a malicious one. Great if you are not sure why a file is running on your system.

This has been around for some days but its still worth an article. Myspace users have the option to hide their comments and friendlist from other users. With an easy workaround it´s possible to view them even though the user did activate the hidding feature.

Many of you told me that I should create a new list of websites that are running webproxies. Today I finally had the time to compile this new list, hope everyone is satisfied with the result.
Maybe it´s a good start to explain why someone would need a webproxy ( or a proxy ). Some countries, for example china, iran and germany, ban certain websites and you can´t view them using your normal internet connection. A proxy on the other hand could be able to display the website correctly and you recieve all the information you want to access.
