Itunes Movie Store will be expensive

I always wondered who made the decision to charge the same amount (or even more) of money for a movie download than for a purchase of the movie on a physical disc. Why should I pay 9,99$ for a movie download that most likely will be crippled with DRM and come without DVD cover and booklet if I can get a better deal when I buy the physical DVD? Some services disallow that you burn more than one DVD from the download or make it impossible to play the movie that you burned on DVD on standalone DVD players.

The single advantage that I can see that speaks for this approach is that you can shop for movies around the clock while you are limited to opening hours or the postal service otherwise.Download and go, that is the advantage; Back to iTunes.

Apple will start selling movies on iTunes starting this September, the price for a new movie (download) will be 14,99$ and for older movies 9,99$. I'm surely not the only one who thinks that those prices are way over prized for downloads. Besides the initial cost of 14,99$ or 9,99$ you also have to pay for your bandwidth to download the movie and for a blank DVD plus printing a cover if you want to watch it on TV.

So, who will use this service? I guess with all the iPod hype many people will use the service even though it seems overpriced. Heck, some purchase single episodes of TV shows for 1,99$ at the iTunes store instead of buying the complete season for $10 or $20 instead.

The conclusion is that it will be used, that people will like it, especially those who are already using iTunes for music and TV series downloads. A great advantage for Apple is that those already have the software installed to make the movie purchases. No new software needs to be installed, no need to sign up again to a service. It is all there.

Take a look at the poll that I will create in a second, it asks for the maximum amount of money that you would be wiling to spend for DVD downloads.

Update: iTunes is now featuring movies and TV shows among other things, and while they are still pretty expensive at large, you may find the occasional bargain among the offer.

Wow, people are getting a bit too lazy these days. What is so hard about going out and buying or renting a DVD? I guess people would rather sit in front of their computers alone, because the screen is too small to accompany friends, to watch movies.

i am a bit pesiimistic about the success of watching movies on a vpod?

for one, people are buying larger and larger lcd screens + 5.1, 7.1 or 9.1(is this available?) speaker systems in order to make home theater system…

then you have this device (i will call this the vpod) with a screen so small you have to have it less then 12 in in front of you to view the movie…

people want crisp & large screen + surround sounds when watching dvd movies…heck that is why i buy dvds instead of vcds right?
