To further improve the security of the website, we have made the decision to reset all account passwords of all users. Ghacks does not have many user accounts and some of them are no longer in use. To protect these accounts against unauthorized access, we are resetting all account passwords.

Users will receive an email with instructions to set a new account password. This allows them to access the site as before.

We apologize for any issues that this may cause, but it is necessary to improve the security of the site.

Martin, I see Ghacks is still having issues, see [https://images2.imgbox.com/91/c4/tINv025J_o.png] that was gHacks not so long ago today (for me).

Unless you are purposely blocking my posts specifically, which I doubt was your intention.

Thank you for fixing some of the issues I reported. No more betting site redirection at least…though the betvisa search weirdness on Google still happens. I guess that might need to wait until Google refreshes the search result I suppose, but at least that don’t redirect anymore.

Btw, you still hadn’t removed the best fake rolex link on the About page

Slightly off-topic: Martin Brinkmann, do you happen to know why on earth [we] has placed the “most recent comments” to appear first (at the top) the list of comments? I do hope [we] haven’t been following the advice of those SEO charlatans.

There is both a ‘logical and ergonomic reason’ why the oldest comments should appear first. This is a blog meant to be read in a logical order. It’s not a ranked or sortable set of random Search Engine results.

Also I’ll add, the comments now make less sense. Because they are no longer arranged in Chronological order, like they used to be.

PS: I’ll just have to assume the entity [we] (see [#comment-4575352] below, thanks to the new deranged comment order) is: Lord Voldemort. I know it doesn’t mean Martin.

You have to use passwords, or even have an account, on this site? Since when?
I always just used my name and Email address to submit a comment.

This applies only to WordPress user accounts, not to comments. Comments do not require an account.

If there was no hack or leak, resetting passwords does not improve the security situation.
If there was a hack or leak, you should write about it explicitly.

Either something is not being told to us, or the site is now being run by people who don’t understand anything about security.

Martin, it might be worth me mentioning for some really bizarre reason yesterday, one of the gHacks recent articles was displaying a page title written in Chinese, also it had a weird image placeholder instead of the article. Translated it said something like: “Website under construction”.

It referenced a SKT, and some scripts, I should have taken a screenshot. Because it looked like this website was hacked; it might be sensible to check your server logs. I cannot believe you’d personally put a Chinese text and image for a page maintenance placeholder.

Martin, who is the entity “we”, are [we] also planning on restoring those deleted comments from roughly around 18 August to October 16 2023. Or have [we] safely stored those “deleted comments” and just pseudoanonymised them.

Because those “deleted comments” are not showing in public. Thus, I have to assume they have been irreversibly deleted from the database itself.

I am of course referring to the “malfunctioning comment system” where many posts were appearing in the wrong threads (pages) or being erroneously duplicated. Only a select few categories seemed to function correctly, regarding users personally contributed comments during that period.

Currently most recent articles are showing zero comments when they certainly did have some relevant comments that were in the “correct thread”, several days ago…

I am not talking about a person that may request removal of posts that are stored as evidence of their past problematic behaviour, in an effort to keep bordering the blog’s rules without ever crossing the line to getting suspended or censored. The Browser categories tend to get edited for foul language against other poster’s comments on occasion with “Editor notes”. For example, the Brave browser category tends to attract flame wars.

How about addressing the months long issue of comments showing up below random stories?

People have been commenting on it the whole time and I’ve never seen a response from Martin or Ashwin.

“This comment was in reponse to “https://www.ghacks.net/2023/10/18/security-notice-all-user-account-passwords-will-be-reset/”

I’m noticing that every time this is brought up, that it’s never addressed directly in the comments. Muzzle order? I’ll feel free to speculate as long as no one dares to answer questions on the comments.

I’m sensing that this issue might already be fixed. The last few articles I’ve looked through have no “old” comments.

I didn’t know it was possible to create an account on Ghacks actually. In any event I never receive email notifications if somebody replies to one of my comments.

I could be wrong, but I believe that it’s mostly the people that supported Ghacks via Patreon years ago that have Ghacks accounts. At least, that’s how I got mine.
