Firefox 4 Alpha
Don't jump to conclusions just yet. Some blogs (Tech Today started it I guess) are reporting that a first pre release alpha of Firefox 4 has been added to the official Mozilla ftp website and I would like to use this article to clarify a few points made. Tech Today claims that this is actually an official Firefox 4 alpha release while it is actually a pre-alpha build, also known as a trunk build.
There is no decision on the codename for Firefox 4 yet, it is definitely not Minefield which refers to the 1.9 trunk that Firefox 3 is being developed on. Remember that the codename for Firefox 3 is Gran Paradiso. Neither the trunk for Firefox 4 nor the browser itself have been codenamed yet.
Which leads to the conclusion that the Tech Today blog excited about the discovery published inaccurate news which is probably leading to some confusion in the community.

Mr. Martin, the site you listed, Tech Today has the following text:
“After Internet Explorer 8 it’s now time for Firefox 4 Alpha codenamed Minesfield.”
Just for the uninitiated, it’s “Minefield” and it’s not version 4 specific. That is the name used for those kinds of builds (for this particular build & with that blue icon/graphic presented on that page), by the developers.
Anyway, why link to them and why have they posted such nonsense escapes me (actually, I’ve got a pretty good idea, but enough is enough). xd
Regards,
Vladimir
P.S.
Also, misspelling Minefield is amusing in itself (ffs :)).
Firefox 4 designer still doesn`t know how new firefox 4 will look :D so ya all have to wait a bit :)
There is no Firefox 4.0, the latest trunk is 3.7
you M*****F****rs there is no firefox 4 till date
There WILL be a Firefox 4, you can read up the news yourself http://news.cnet.com/firefox-4-will-push-out-the-edges-of-the-browser/
FF3 has been incompatible with Quicktime Streaming Media originating from Darwin Streaming Server. This problem was observed with the first release of FF3. I tried to find a regression range to bracket when the problem may have developed, but once it became clear that the framewoerk itself is at fault, interest in finding a solution evaporated. Here is my bug report on the issue: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=472015
I am pessimistic that the problem will be addressed with FF4. Opera works fine. Safari is works fine. Firefox sucks.
Mr. McDonkey,
Apple, the monopolistic company of the day, forces out some technology that no one sane really cares about & it’ll not work on your box… Boo-hoo. :)
The link to Firefox 4, is not 4 it is the link to Minefield. It runs better than any browser out there but still has some bugs in it.
They’re working on 3.1 build to try and be finished by the end of the year, why would there be a Firefox 4? Completely false news, nothing but a mere rumor.
do u think there will be more firefoxes after 3 or 4?
