If you hang out on Reddit regularly you may have stumbled upon some of the site's NSFW (Not Safe For Work) groups.
These groups offer content that is not suitable for minors but the only protection offered on Reddit is a warning the first time you try to access one of those groups or a post in it.
While the majority of these groups are about image or video contents, some display links or textual information only.
Apart from that, they work just like any other group on Reddit which means that users can leave comments and vote for original posts and comments.
These comments may contain additional information. If a picture is posted or an animated gif, comments may point you to a video file or additional sources that you may be interested in as well.
While you can browse the comments of all posts you are interested in manually, it is a time-consuming process especially if you are only interested in source information and not in discussion about what is being shown or discussed.
Reddit Sauce is a Chrome extension that does exactly that. It scans user comments for source links and highlights them directly on the overview page so that you know on first glance if a source is linked in one of the comments or not.
If multiple sources are linked in the comments, you get multiple sauce bottle icons next to the post so that you know about that as well.
The color of the bottle distinguishes between video links (red) and animated gif links (yellow).
To make things even more comfortable, it is possible to click on bottle icons directly to load the linked source in a new tab in the browser.
The extension works only on NSFW groups on Reddit and not on groups that are open to all users.
The author of the extension recommends to enable it for use in Chrome's Incognito mode as extensions are not enabled by default in that mode. You do that by checking the "allow in incognito" box on Chrome's extensions page: chrome://extensions/
You may also want to hide the extension's button in Chrome's toolbar as it offers no extra functionality.
