Always VPN To Watch HULU And Similar Services

There is only one possibility to be able to access content that is restricted to select countries on the Internet: Virtual Private Networks. They basically route your traffic through their web servers so that the destination only communicates directly with their servers. If those servers are located in the country you want to access the content from then you normally can do so without difficulties.

Hotspot Shield was the Virtual Private Network that everyone was talking about. Mainly because it offered free access to their network albeit with limited bandwidth usage before they cut you off. Always VPN could be a viable alternative to watch Hulu or listen to Pandora from outside the United States.

The Virtual Private Network is easy to setup and can be downloaded as a client for Windows XP, Windows Vista, Mac OS X or Linux. Once the software has been installed the Virtual Private Network connection can be started from the Start Menu in Windows.

Users get the choice between compatible and faster editions and can also change the configuration if they want to tweak it further. Tests with Hulu and Pandora were successful. A lot of buffering was going on though which could have been a temporary problem or caused by the increasing popularity of the service.

There is one more “thing” that has to be mentioned. The Virtual Private Network is displaying advertisement on top of each web page to finance the service.

Always VPN can be a viable alternative to Hotspot Shield, especially if the latter service is not working for you or if you already used up all of your bandwidth and want to continue watching or listening to those services.

I think there goes the saying ..there is no free lunch in this world.

I have an account with http://www.smallvpn.com for $10 a month. It is a paid one but at least i am free from any ‘hidden’ agenda from these free-vpn provider.

So far so good. Solid uptime and i enjoy my hulu session ever since.

alwaysvpn is not free anymore :( been using the free trial from monkeyvpn.com and it’s fast but anyone know anymore sites with free trials??

  8. Pablo says:

Always VPN is not very useful if you are going to use any bandwidth intensive applications such as HULU or Pandora, because those applications need so much bandwidth and Always VPN charges by the GB. You could easily go over your limit in a day.

I use Road Warrior VPN.com which supplies unlimited bandwidth. Their servers are always very fast.

[...] About us AlwaysVPN Provides International Access to U.S.-Only Sites [Featured Download] Monday, November 10th, 2008 @ 5:30 am | Author: admin Windows/Mac/Linux (All platforms): AlwaysVPN, a free virtual private networking service, is promoted as a safer way for anyone to browse the web or trading files over a public net connection. It works for that purpose, sure, but it also lets anyone on the disappointing side of a U.S.-only service like Hulu, Pandora, or Fancast get around that often arbitrary restriction. We’ve previously featured a similar service, Hotspot Shield, but AlwaysVPN has the edge in not installing any toolbars (although it does put ads across the top of your browser), working on all three major platforms, and, well, being a go-to VPN proxy if Hotspot is only trickling in. Installation and startup are a simple right-click affair in Windows, while OS X users will have to configure a third-party VPN client, and Linux users compile from source. AlwaysVPN is a free download for Windows, Mac OS X and Linux systems. International readers, what’s your favorite work-around VPN or proxy solution for U.S.-only sites? Tell us in the comments.
