GrooveDown, Download Music From Grooveshark

Grooveshark is a popular online music streaming service based in the United States. The service is currently not restricted to users from the United States unlike comparable services that are. Users can search for and play music, create playlists or tune into one of the available genre themed radio stations.

Most of the music on Grooveshark gets uploaded by users of the service.

GrooveDown is a third party program for the Windows operating system, which works on Linux and Mac with emulation, that taps directly into Grooveshark’s vast music library. The portable program can be used to search for music on Grooveshark and download selected songs to the local computer system.

The portable application is as simple as it can be. It begins with a search term for a band, artist, song or album. GroveDown pulls the information from Grooveshark and displays them in list form in its interface.

A double-click on individual songs adds them to the download queue. Users who want to download everything can click the add All button to add all songs that have been found to the queue.

Downloads are not started until the Download button is activated in the program interface. All songs are downloaded to the program directory and sorted into artist and album folders.

The download location and folder structure can be customized in the program settings. The latest version can also pull the most popular song listing from Grooveshark.

GrooveDown is a simple program that can only be used to find and download music, but that’s exactly how it was designed by its developer. And simple does not mean that it is bad, on the contrary. The application delivers exactly what was promised in a fast and reliable way.

The Grooveshark downloader is compatible with 32-bit and 64-bit editions of Windows, and by using emulation also with Mac and Linux systems. Downloads are available at the developer website which links to file hosting services. (via)

  1. Please, guys – it’s “Grooveshark”, not “Groveshark”. Thanks.

  2. B. Moore says:

WOW the peeps over at Grooveshark cannot be happy.

I suggest downloading this app before it disappears and they fix their service to keep this app from working….

  3. GrooveDown Developer Team says:

    Heyho Martin!

We like to thank you for your nice article. We appreciate it very much :)

In addition to that we’d like to inform you that we are working on a new version in Java, so that Linux and Mac are supported native. Alot of changes will be done, without loosing the simplicity.

So far, farewell, if you have any problems or ideas, write us @our page.

If grooveshark ever gets wise and notices the groovedown application and its users downloading music from the system, could they and would they come after me if I use it (since it is in violation of their privacy policies)?

My roommate is a computer science major and said something about the header you guys would send to grooveshark when requesting the file to download or something like that. I just wondered how the liability would work and if it’s even traceable back to me.

It’s okay if you aren’t sure. I won’t hold you to your answer, but I’d like to know where I stand.

  4. Is not working anymore for me, anyone got the alpha release?

  5. Andre says:

You can use TubeMaster++ to download MP3 from Grooveshark : http://www.tubemaster.net

  6. Rob says:

Thanks! No virus and very easy to use. 5/5 /Rob.

  7. Duh says:

Sounds nice. But groovedown’s website is DOWN. Are they done?
