Pandora stopped their Music Genome Project from streaming to clients that would access the Pandora website from outside the United States yesterday. They are now checking the IP of every visitor and depending on his location he is either presented with the normal Pandora website or a letter which explains the situation that he is not allowed to use Pandora due to licensing difficulties. Internet Radio should be accessible from anywhere, just like normal radio that does not know boundaries as well.
Before I explain how to listen to Pandora from outside the United States I would like to ask a question: “I did use Pandora to find new music and I actually did buy some of the music that I found. Since I’m not allowed to use Pandora anymore I won’t find new music this way which means I won’t eventually buy new music. Do you think that this is a clever strategy ?” I have no usage stats for Pandora but would be excited to know the ratio of US to International users of the service.
Accessing Pandora from outside the United States is actually easier than you thought. All you need is a so called cgi-proxy which is located in the United States. Just search for cgi-proxy on Google – you will find hundreds of those proxies on the Internet. Just enter the url of pandora.com in the proxy form field and hit enter. Pandora should load as usual. (You could use Rapidwire.net for example for this)

Hey… Wow, thanks… This was quick. I was searching all night to find a solution to this… I’m not that into all this, so Rapidwire was just perfect.
They seem to have difficulties at the moment, i hope it’s not related to my proxy walk-around, but I’ll try to be patient.
Thanks again!
BTW; I’d also like to know how many listeners they have in and outside the US. Pandora is way better than any alternative I’ve found, so if I can stick with it, I will… It seems unfair that only US residents get access… There is a world outside of that country, even though they seem to have it all worked out pretty well for themselves. :)
hey wat happened to unblockr ???
Hi there,
Cool hack but also at my place they seem to have difficulties at the moment :(
I hope that this hack will work :)
unfortunatly this does not work, guess its due to the streaming and or flash pandora requires..
I wish people would actually test there “solutions” before posting them… the net is full of “use a proxy” since pandora was pulled from non-US, but it simply does not work ;(
thanks for trying though…
This solution doesn’t work. I tried it also through anonymizer.su with different proxys located in the USA and also GB.
Everytime the same: The player window loads and displays the message: “We’re having unexpected technical difficulties. Our engeneers are scrambling to fix things. Please try again later.”
Thanks for trying…
I found the solution here among the comments, but it was erased from the comments (WHY?). Solution was a program called ******** – install the program, run it and you can enjoy Pandora again.
Take your spam elsewhere, thanks..
Sorry for messing with your ego!
Well, next time take care that not all of your “alter egos” post with a similar IP.. thanks
Well next time post a solution – that works. Or maybe just don’t erase the one that actually works – just because you didn’t come up with it…
Well, I actually did try the program and guess what ? It displays the same error message that I got when using the cgi-proxy..
If you want to discuss this further mail me by using the contact form above..
Sorry, can’t find your email and sorry, I know I was rude, but I didn’t understand the “spam” part, because it really works for me (and cgy-proxy doesn’t) and it works wit OpenPandora too (original poster stated that it didn’t). But it consumes way more of my bandwidth so it’s either listen to Pandora or browse the net…
what goood
some 1 needs to be smart and create a proxy thats named like kids learning .com and they wint block it
Try pandroxy.openfilehosting.com
I just made it this week.
i have tried to find plugin for Winamp or similar and even pandora clients there you can configure proxy
openpandora is one program but it will not work now
any other sugestions?
as of today, pandroxy or any other proxy i tried, won’t work. The problem seems to be a filtering inside the flash app at a glance (a message talking about “unexpected technical difficulties” to be precise) so i doubt an easy thing like a proxy will ever work.
Ok here we go.
After Pandora closed its doors to the UK over a couple of weeks ago now i have been (like alot of you im sure) trying frantically to get it back, fully functioning with no restrictions.
Well after a few stressed hours i managed to find a sollution that is 100% success, and no its not GlobalPandora.com (although they were good for a while, the service is restricted and it hasnt worked for over a week now)
tried proxies but they dont work, not even cgi proxies as they have probelems with the flash that pandora is produced in.
If you want it, its by a very simple method of oinion routers. Follow instructions here: http://openpandora.blogspot.com/2007/06/complete-guide-for-using-openpandora.html
if you have any probs email me @ thegoodsirspud@hotmail.com
would only be happy to help any other stranded pandora listners.
PANDORA FOR EVERYONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hotspot shield works for me, from the uk.
This will be just like the Hulu block. First they block non-usa IPs, then they setup proxy checking, and limiting the number of users from a single ip. Just get over it and get a vpn from a vpn service provider like hidemynet.com . Theirs is 5$/month and it allows you to watch hulu, and tons of other content that is US only as well.
Just found a way to listen to Pandora again: http://aomproxy.com Works like a charm. And without these annoying interruptions that TOR has.
