Free Music Zilla is a great software – besides it silly name – that lets you download music from popular social music websites such as Mog, Imeem, Last.fm, Pandora, Myspace, iJigg, Radio.blog.club and many others that have not been tested yet. The simplicity makes it a great software, there is no need to be an expert anymore and look in the html source code to get some details that you need in order to download a song from myspace.
All you need is to start Free Music Zilla and play a song on MySpace or any of the other mentioned social music websites. The software will automatically recognize that a song is played and grab all the details needed automatically from the stream. All you need to do is to mark the file and click on download.
Let me walk you through an example on Myspace.
Download Songs from Myspace:
Start Free Music Zilla and open your favorite browser and point it to myspace.com. Once there open a bands homepage and play one of the songs in the Myspace music player. Bring Free Music Zilla back to the front and notice that the mp3 that is currently playing on the Myspace website is listed there.
Just check the box in front of that mp3 and click on download. The default download location for mp3 that you download is c:\download, you might want to change that in the options.
You notice several other values in the listing. The filename has to be changed manually unfortunately because Myspace is using that random mp3 name script to avoid direct links to their mp3 songs. The Leech Timeout displays the time that you have to start the mp3 download. You need to play the mp3 again on Myspace if you did not make it in that time.
The Myspace mp3 downloads were incredibly fast. I hit the download button and it said completed almost immediately. Not sure how fast it is on slower connections though. The music needs to be playing during the download, make sure it is because the download will fail otherwise.
Conclusion:
Free Music Zilla offers the easiest way to download mp3 from Myspace and other social music sites. If I could correct one thing I would uncheck all mp3 files that I already downloaded automatically but this is only a minor issue.
It has a major limitation though. This version allows the user to download ten mp3 per day which is simply not enough. The Orbit Downloader team which is also developing Free Music Zilla will soon implement a way to download mp3 from within their free client supposedly without limitations.

Just have to add that for Opera users, you need to check Opera under Tools > Preferences > Monitoring and restart FMZ. You may also need to restart Opera like in my case.
Other than that, it works like a charm on Myspace :)

you can also use the tamper data plugin for firefox.
Great tool, but Firefox won’t restart with Music Zilla open, you will have to close FF first and start fmz afterwards to get both apps working….
Hope there will be an update for this soon.

i can download the music from imeem.com using this softaware. but i cannot convert it from flv to mp3. i try using total video converter, which usually manage to convert any flv video i got from youtube, but it hang when i try to convert the flv file from music zilla.
can you tell me what’s the problem? and maybe, you could recommend other converter?

when i use free music zilla it works but the file does not work for windows media player and its not a flv file(im sure used it on myspace)where do i convert the mp3 file to make it work

All you need to do is when ever you haved used the 10 downloads close the program change the date on computer ( move up one day ) then you have 10 more :)

grab++ does the job also .. – however i noticed at one site .. where flash is playing (but the files are mp3s) – Free Music Zilla correctly showed them and grabbed them as .mp3 .. BUT .. Grab++ at this place somehow shows them as say – filename.mpeg (instead of of .mp3) ..and then when download – file(s) d/l like that..
unless rename of course.. but still it’s an inconviniece.. – i hope they can fix it..
Many People are complaining about the 10 songs per day download dilema… since computers are smart and dumb at the same time. when you get the 10 a day limit message, simply click ok, then double click on the computers date and push it back or forward a day…and keep doing it back and forth…simplest way around it…and after you’ve downloaded more songs then you know what to do with use a program called Freez FLV to MP3 coverter…it cost $10 but its useful cause it can convert 1,000,000 flv’s to mp3 at a time….
MySpace is leaving all played mp3s in the “Temporary Internet Folder” without erasing them.
Download the windows freeware Space Jammer (http://www.spacejammer.com). It tags and renames the mp3s in the cache. All you have to do is to move them from the internet-cache to another place on your harddisc.
It works real good!

wow. i cannot believe that not a single person mentioned the obvious fact that this software is used to STEAL music from artists…
have we all become so desensitized and materialistic that we dont even stop to think about the ramifications…and then consider that myspace isnt giving a penny to the indie labels for their music, like they are for the major labels…so in the end, if you are a musician or producer trying to have a career in music, you can just forget it…we are leeches sucking the creative output of the artists we supposedly love dry…

Hey I used this recently and when I did, like all my music that I have saved on my desktop just seems to disappear. Its not even in my recycle bin and there is no trace of it. Everytime I use it this happens. Does anybody know of anything or had similar problem?

Hello there. I’ve been using FMZilla for almost 2 years never having a problem. Later days it doesn’t work in both my computers. When i try to download comes the message ‘FMZilla can download 0 files per day.I did try to uninstal the program and reinstal it again but with no results. I would appreciate some help please!
