So, you have received one of those much though after Hulu private invitations only to find out that you can’t watch a single movie on their website because of their geo-targeting ? Viewers who do not live in the United States get the following line whenever they try to watch a video at Hulu.
“Unfortunately this video is currently not available in your country or region. We apologize for the inconvenience”. That means that if you live in the United States but are currently abroad you can’t watch the videos at Hulu. Unless, you have found a way to use a service that hides your IP and displays one from the United States.

The following method is unfortunately not free but works perfectly to watch all videos at Hulu. Secure-Tunnel offers a software that tunnels your connection through their service which is located in the United States. This means that you can use their software to watch videos at Hulu plus use any other service that is geotargeted to the United States. This includes Pandora for instance.
Secure-Tunnel offers several packages and all work beginning with the Gold package which costs roughly $8 per month. What I really like about this solution is that the software that you install is recognizing software that is connecting to the Internet and is asking you if you want to tunnel that software.
Besides the obvious effect that you can watch Hulu videos and listen to Pandora Radio streams you also hide your own IP and use an encrypted connection. This increases the security level of your connection as well as your own privacy.

As you can see it is possible to access Hulu from outside the United States and watch all shows without interruption.

Hi,
is there any other way to hide the IP so I can watch hulu ?
Thanks!
Or maybe you could use a proxy (http://proxy.org/):
- select from the right a US random proxy;
- write the website in the upper bar;
- enjoy US-only sites!
(works with Pandora, don’t know about Hulu… I’ll try)
I’m not sure if a normal web proxy would work, if you get any results ST1V let me know please.
I personally think that VPN connections are far superior but come at a cost. The increased security and anonymity is in my opinion worth it.
But, if you do get it to work let me know please, this would make an interesting story.
Hotspot Shield from Anchorfree is a free VPN utility. The server is US based and has decent bandwidth.
It works well to listen to Pandora from abroad. Might work with Hulu as well.
I tried connecting with the proxy 66.98.238.8:3128 to a site with the only Hulu video I know (http://blog.hulu.com/2007/10/28/beta-testing-begins-for-hulu).
Without the proxy it says “not currently avaiable in your country or region”, with the proxy it says “this video is no longer unavaiable”, but it doesn’t say it’s due to my location. Maybe I get that error because that video has been removed…
Anyone with another Hulu video I could try with?
ST1V try the sample video that I added. It is working perfectly with Secure Tunnel :)
Well, than I have to admit it doesn’t work with a proxy… Maybe Traindle’s suggestion will work.
I’m having trouble with secure tunnel right now and it won’t get anything to work, but maybe that’s coz I’m still trying to get the software to work. Could someone help me and let me know what you did?
Please explain what’s happening exactly Yustynn so I can get a picture on what you might be doing wrong / might be wrong with the software.
Tried the tunnel, anonymizer, proxys, nothing works. I have a nice beta account and I cant use it. Sucks to be outside the US right now :)
Oh nevermind Martin they were having some issues that’s why it didn’t work. Works fine now. Thanks though!
IT WORKS!
Cant get it to work. Signed up, and installed the software but when I try to connect to Tunnel East or West it disconnects me from the server and the webtunnel makes no difference to Hulu.
Am I even doing it right? There are that many different types of software on their site its a bit daunting…
Christabel I start the secure-tunnel application on my Pc and click on connect in there. This connects me to the network.
After that I start Opera or Firefox and Secure Tunnel asks me if I want to use it for that connection. I say yes and from then on I use the service with the browser.
Then I simply go to Hulu and can watch the videos offered there.
That means it is working now Christabel ?
Luca you need to download the software and use it. do not use the website to access Hulu, this won’t work. The Secure-Tunnel software can be downloaded here https://www.secure-tunnel.com/support/software_setup/windows/windows.cfm for windows xp / 2000.
Pete the Secure Tunnel Launcher should be working under Vista as well, did you try that one ?
Martin you are so helpful!!!
Unfortunately I’ve got Vista and in the link it says that the software is not compatible: I have the Secure Tunnel Launcher software installed (the one for the Gold subscription) and I’ve changed the settings in Firefox as it shows on the website
https://www.secure-tunnel.com/support/software_setup/windows/firefox/firefox.cfm
But still when I open the Hulu page (in Firefox) i recieve the message: the content is not currently available when i try to open a video.
What am I doing wrong then?
Martin thank you so much for all your help, you really are a great person.
Bye Luca!
Thanks Martin, yeah got it working on XP using secure tunnel.
Tried the Mac method at home and I’ve hit a brick wall. I can get the tunnel program running fine, update the proxies but Hulu seems to know all about my deception and restrict playback saying ‘Sorry, video not available at this time’.
I’ll have to stick to my PC at work it seems but I suppose its better than nothing. Its a really nice app though…
Luca maybe the content is not available for Firefox. I know that those websites tend to be rather restrictive. Did you try it with Internet Explorer ?
Try AnchorFree.
It’s working for me (firefox, XP) in Australia. A little “choppy”/stop-start though.
Hey guys.. I have a mac os 10.5
I installed AlmostVPN/pro i set everything as in the web site says to do but hulu says “sorry, this video is currently unavaible, we apologize for any incovienent”.
It seems to be the same problem as christabel has at home..
does anyone know what i should do?
I want the people to know that nowadays secure-tunnel does NOT work with hulu on a mac.
If anyone knows why please let me know it..
Use Hotspot Shield from AnchorFree. Works perfectly. I’ve posted some videos here:
http://hulustuff.blogspot.com/
Hi everyone, has anyone managed to get Hulu running on Vista outside the US? I’ve tried both AnchorFree and Secure Tunnel with no luck…
Thanks to everyone willing to help
Bye Luca!!!
Thanks! AnchorFree Hotspot Shield works perfectly!
Hey, ive tryed the AnchorFree Hotspot Shield, well its the slowest thing ever… =\
But it works, but its too slow! :P
So, if anyone in here knows another program like Hotspot Shield, or Secure-Tunnel thats free, PLEASE post it here!
Thx, Ziink
Odd, but using Hotspot Shield, the Hulu site itself is “choppy”, yet hulu “stuff” posted in a blog works perfectly.
Also, abc.com works perfectly using Hotspot Shield. One trick though: You need to change your time zone to a US one such as Arizona. Just double click the time in the bottom right corner of the screen, click the time zone tab, and change it to a US one. NBC and CBS are choppy though. Also good are fox, and joost (some good CBS content not available outside the US.)
*Sorry remove this pls*
It does work, but to damn slow!!! I need to like reconnect 500 times to find a good one! =\
And I have 10mbs internet connection, that is like fast :P
So, someone knows any other ones thats fast?
Thx, Ziink
AnchorFree works fine for me at work on a Mac, but on my PC at home (windows xp, sp2) it doesn’t work at all.
It sits on “Waiting for Server” forever.
Total. Bummer.
