Regular Youtube visitors might have noticed the Vevo logo that is now being displayed on many Youtube music videos. Try a search for Lady Gaga or any of the other popular artists that top the Youtube music video list to see the logo in action. This is part of a deal between Google and several major record labels to promote Vevo which is a music platform run by those record labels.
The differences become apparent right away. Vevo is not available in all countries. Most music videos were viewable by all users at Youtube but Vevo locks out everyone who is not coming from the United States. This is currently not such a big problem as all music videos are still available at Youtube.
Another annoyance is that Vevo seems to display additional advertisement. Vevo visitors get a few additional services like lyrics or artist profiles that are not offered by Youtube. This situation is not that problematic for as long as the music videos are offered at Youtube directly as well. It could however become a issue if a long term goal of the deal is to move all official music videos to Vevo.
Some users reported that the Vevo videos on Youtube load slowly (if at all) and cannot be downloaded. Good news is that it is still possible to download Vevo videos at Youtube if the right tools are available.
The easiest way to download Vevo videos is by using the Firefox extension Download Helper which works just fine for this purpose.
Download Helper will indicate downloadable contents in the Firefox status bar. A click on the icon displays the list of all videos that have been found. Those can then be downloaded to the local computer system.
We were not able to test Download Helper at the Vevo website as it is currently blocked in our country. It would be nice if a visitor from the United States could check and see if Download Helper works at the Vevo website as well.

Update:
Vevo videos use protected streaming (opposed to standard Youtube videos that download to the temp folder). It is therefor as of now not possible to download Vevo music videos with the usual tools.

didnt work for me, just downloads a 0kb file
Download helper is great for NON vevo stuff on youtube. But clearly the author did not know what he was talking about concerning download helper or other similar plugins and websites that downloadconvert flv from youtube.
Currently I do not believe there is any firefox plugin or 3rd party website that can download the flv from youtube vevo. As others have mention any attempt results in a 0kb flv file.

you can go on to vevo by using free program “Hotspot Shield” it just changes your ip and your free to go to US only websites like HULU and VEVO

You can NOT download vevo videos on youtube with this add-on, nor with any other programs it seems. I have been at it for about 2 hours trying to get like two damn videos that I cannot find anywhere else. Go youtube for making something that’s fool-proof for a little while.
Vevo will be hacked some day.. just like the other software. Mark my words. =)
should be possible with just about any stream saving software, thats really all it is…. if you can watch it, it CAN be saved.

Firefox Video Download Helper and other various online sites offering downloads from url don’t work. Only way I’ve found to save the videos by Vevo is to use the software program “Fraps” and do a full screen capture of the video you want to save to your hard drive. I have saved at 30 fps and can watch the videos.

You can easily download a VEVO video with Replay Video Capture. If you can watch it, you can record it… I try it with a Vevo video on youtube and it works.
To keep the same quality as vevo, just set the video bitrate at 8000 kbps and frames at 30 fps in Replay Video Capture settings.

Ok i have searched the whole web: there seems to be no way to download a YoutubeVEVO Video without a Screen Capture Software, which sucks balls.
We need to change this. VEVO this is war.

Some details:
- These videos are not stored on youtube
- These videos are transmitted over a protocol called RTMPE
(RTMPS uses SSL-encryption, RTMPE makes use of well-known industry standard cryptographic primitives consisting of Diffie-Hellman key exchange and HMACSHA256, generating a pair of RC4 keys, one of which is then used to encrypt the data sent by the server (such as the audio or video stream), whilst the other key is used to encrypt any data sent to the server. Some tools were able to capture RTMPE streams by taking advantage of a security hole within the Flash player object. Adobe fixed this issue in January 2009.)
- This protocol was cracked by Andrej Stepanchuk and Howard Chu
- They created an open source project and published it on sourceforge.net, but adobe sued and forced to withdraw the project from sourceforge.net
- The latest version is 2.0, but only supports RTMPE from version 1.9.
- The name of this project is rtmpdump, get sources is relatively difficult, I only have version 1.9 windows binary and source code with “make” version 2.0
- Even with the rtmpdump, take more, the server connection is closed flash randomly (hence the videos over youtube player are paused), but you can resume the download at one point.
- The url of the stream RTMPE (which is akamai server) is in the conn parameter of get_video_info youtube
With these data would be relatively easy for someone to write a program to download videos from vevo.
But so far I can say that I am the first who can to download videos from vevo.
I just wanted recognition and no more, so I do not want money or add publicity on my page.

Before unloading are carried out by php, I have decided to allow direct downloading from apache, but some users are using download managers to create 15 parallel downloads from same video, and this is causing serious problems for broadband.
If this continues, I’ll have to block the direct download of apache, make it through php with discharge limits, and no possibility of resuming of downloads.

In my apache was up the threads to 2000 but if he is right, the connection is reset, this is because there is no available memory on the server (only 2GB) to handle so many threads. I have now lowered to 100 threads to give greater stability, only now are less the threads and the requests take a bit to boot.
And if the downloads are now made through php, and the discharge is limited to 8KB / s

Yes mr nobile, lol the download resets have been disabled and unless i get lucky enough to hit yo server during a time where theres less activity i mite as well hang it up, i mess with scripts a lil myself, i hear the RTMP dump open src program does work with just a few editin lines to it allowin users to dump the stream on the hardrive but the info is scarce, a statement relaesed by Adobe explained that the RTMPe protocol was not specifically created to prevent user downloads but better yet to protect users “from malicious code and packet sniffers” but they state decryption is at the users discretion, guess they just didnt want the script running wild on the net @ Andrej Stepanchuk and Howard Chu

Lol, as it looks now u wont be able to find a program thas user-interface friendly right now, this is not to say that its not possible to get videos from VEVO because it is infact possible, but there wont be user friendly program that lets u get it from a click of a button like in the past for a long time, your going to actually have to do some src work with servers and remember that the script for this will be very limited because themore that get distributed the much quicker it will be patched or hindered, sorry this is just the way it goes, be patient though! :)

use RealPlayer SP… use their Downloader there… ive tried it myself, it really works… type the link on their browser for example youtube.com and then look for the video with vevo you want to download and then there it goes, download it… much better if you change its download directory to desktop so that you can see the file quckly. go to preferences, and then download & recording. gudluck…
