YousableTubeFix is a Greasemonkey script for the Firefox and Opera Internet browser (and most likley for other Internet browsers who support Greasemonkey as well) that changes the layout of Youtube to provide a better experience for the user. The list of features that are packed into the script is extensive and will change the perception of Youtube tremendously. Users of the Firefox Internet browser need to install the Greasemonkey extension before they can install the script while Opera users can move the script directly into a folder in the Opera directory.
Lets take a look at the default Youtube screen that appears when a user without the script opens a video on the portal.

And now the same page after the script has been installed in Firefox:

The script changes a lot directly on the screen. The video gets resized automatically to fit the screen. Ads and other unwanted elements on the page are removed including watching now, character counter or video annotations. Options to download the video in flv, mp4 format are available directly beneath the video. A click on the video title will also initiate a download of the video directly from Youtube.

The configuration options provided by the script contain several interesting features as well. The user can change the design of the Youtube website drastically. It is possible to remove additional elements from the Youtube page, display none or up to 500 comments on a page, prevent autoplay or autodownload, bypass the age verification (logged in users only) and select the default video format and flash player quality.

Firefox users can download the userscript here while Opera users have to go here instead.
YousableTubeFix is a great userscript for Youtube addicts and users who want Youtube to automatically use a specific video quality and page layout.

Hi Martin, can I take this opportunity to ask you of compatibility issues between Greasemonkey and NoScript extensions? Greasemonkey proceeds with Javascripts, therefore I imagine only Javascript enabled pages will accept Greasmonkey scripts, is this correct ?
Moreover, I’ve been told that Greasemonkey slows down page rendering, is this correct as well ?
Thanks for your time if you wish.
Good question. Greasemonkey scripts will work on all pages even those where JavaScript is disabled. Maybe the scripts are executed on the local computer and not on the domain? Not sure about his. The scripts might slow down page rendering as they change page elements but barely, if at all, noticeable. Some heavy scripts might slow it down noticeably though but I never encountered one.
That sounds nice, Martin. I think I’ll give Greasemonkey a try therefore, and start with this YousableTubeFix script, which not only interests me as such but also brings my attention to what seems to be a wide array of Greasemonkey possibilities.
Thanks for the information.
Awesome script, thanks
Classy find Martin i realy like this one.
I must be in friday braindead mode but I installed the script and can’t find where the config/options access is.
You right-click the Greasemonkey icon and select User Scripts Commands.
nero > You have to go on a/the site where script applies in order to have the configuration panel available. In this case, once on youtube.*, right click on the status-bar icon and you’ll have the config in the menu.
I agree that this extension CAN be very useful. But for every uploader on youtube its essential to see the original, non-resized video for best results. Be it HQ or HD.
