Flickr is one of the most popular photo hosting websites on the Internet. This makes it attractive for software developers, as tools designed for Flickr can reach a larger audience than tools designed for smaller photo hosting sites.

Flickr Downloadr is a new software program to assist you in downloading photos of Flickr. The first version of the tool has been released recently with several feature disabled that have not been implemented yet.

Update: The developer created a Google Chrome extension which you can use for the purpose of downloading photos on Flickr. The actual program is not developed anymore, but the Chrome extension should work fine still. End

As of now it is only possible to download photos from one specific user. Only photos that are not licensed with all rights reserved will be downloaded while the rest will be skipped. The Flickr tool only works under Windows Vista or Windows 7. It is on the other hand a small portable application that works great if you regularly download files from the photo hosting website.

The application displays the option to download photos by user, group or everyone with only the user option enabled. The next page displays a simple form that accepts a name as input. It will search Flickr for that username and displays the photos as thumbnails on the next page of the software program. There are two additional options that only search the favorites or contacts of a person.

Options are provided on that page to change the number of thumbnails that are displayed at the same time. It is furthermore possible to navigate the photo collection. Copyrighted images are displayed with a C on the thumbnail. A click on the Next button will initiate the download of the photos to the local computer.

Verdict

The main benefit that you get from running Flickr Downloadr is that it allows you to download multiple photos from the site in one swift operation.

We have covered similar tools in the past that provide additional options. Those are Backup Flickr Accounts which is offering to pretty much download anything that is available on Flickr, the Firefox extension Flickr Download which gets rid of the dreaded spaceball.gif image, Flickr Down which also allows to download photos or Flickr AutoDownloadr which offers the same functionality.

Thanks for writing a detailed review of Flickr Downloadr. Main goal of the tool is to provide an UI that is inspired by the Vista/Win7 design guideance and be a simple and effective tool for searching and downloading photos.

New features will be added weekly going forward and there was an updated released last night that fixed a few bugs. Please report feature suggestions, problems or any other feedback on the CodePlex project website.
