Some of 8BitDo’s Best Controllers Now Work with Apple devices
Innovative, durable, and quite the looker is any Apple device’s design feature. The one thing I’ve noticed is that Apple products are designed to satisfy and provide the best technology there is to offer. The other thing I also see is that Apple carefully considers a trend before they jump on it. Not having a foldable phone is one example, but this is a story for another day.
For the longest time, we’ve been stuck with the thought that we can’t game with our Apple devices. Well, I have news for you as we see 8BitDo enabling compatibility for iOS, macOS, iPadOS, and tvOS devices on six of its wireless controllers.
A quick one for those that don’t know who 8BitDo is. 8BitDo is a video game hardware company whose main focus is making controllers for Nintendo Switch. Remember what I said about Apple and quality? 8BitDo is also known for producing some of the highest-quality controllers in the market. They also make controllers and sell adapters for connecting peripherals to other platforms.
This new edition from 8BitDo means Apple users can now access new game controller options that are already on PCs, Android, and Nintendo. You’ll need the latest firmware update to be installed from the Firmware Updater tool for Mac and Windows. Compatible controllers include the Pro 2, the 8BitDo Ultimate Controller 2.4GHz, SN30 Pro for Android, SN30 Pro Plus, the lite SE, and SN30Pro.
On the other hand, for Apple users, your iPhone should run on iOS 16.3 and iPadOS 16.3 for iPad users to be compatible with the new controllers. Macs with the MacOS Ventura and Apple TV streaming boxes that run on tvOS 16.3 are compatible. On the other side, compatibility doesn’t include motion control or rumble despite 8BitDo’s gamepads being supported in the App Store and the Apple Arcade games platform.
The six controllers that come compatible with Apple have very little to offer when it comes to layout, look, and form factor. When it comes to 8BitDo’s prices, you don’t have much to worry about, as their controllers are affordable and come in retro-styled options. Their prices are fairly competitive with Sony PlayStation and Microsoft Xbox controllers, which Apple devices are already compatible with.
8Bit is also known for its D-pads and even controllers with drift-free Hall effect sticks. Unfortunately, they aren’t on today's list of compatible Apple controllers.
The addition of 8BitDo support to Apple devices is definitely a game changer, especially for Apple Arcade subscribers. Apple Arcade has been an excellent low-key gaming service. Let's wait and see what Apple has for us in terms of the latest and biggest games in the Industry.
