MailStore Home 10.1 is the latest version of the popular email archiving and backup software for Microsoft Windows devices.

The new version of the program features search improvements, and some other changes that are useful to users of the program.

Existing users may run a check for updates from within the application. A click on the check for updates button on the application's dashboard runs an update check. The new MailStore Home 10.1 should pop up then automatically as a new version, and an option to download and install it should be displayed as well.

You may download the new version from the official company website as well to install it on a new machine, or run the installer to update an existing version of it.

Tip: A guide that explains how to use MailStore to backup email.

Search has been improved considerably in MailStore Home 10.1. As you may know, you can run searches across all archived emails at once regardless of email address those messages are associated with. You can run one-time searches, but also save searches to re-run them again at a later point in time (and take into account new messages archived in between).

One of the new capabilities allows you to run searches only in the body of the email, or in attachments. These options are available when you open search in the MailStore Home application.

This allows you to search only the message body for instance, or only the content of attachments. You may combine the search options though, for instance to find matching text in the subject or message body, but not the sender or recipient field.

Search improvements don't stop there however. Another improvement are new search modifiers. The following modifiers are available now under general on the same page:

  • Find older or newer than (range).
  • Find older or newer than (date).
  • Not older or newer than (range).
  • Not older or newer than (date).

The difference between date and range is that date sets a fixed date for the advanced search parameter, e.g. not older than February 3rd, 2017, while range a time period, e.g. not older than 55 days.

Another search related change is the lifting of the 10,000 tokens per object search index restriction.

Last but not least, you may start an advanced search quickly from the right-click context menu of a selected folder.

IMAP

MailStore Home's IMAP handling was improved in the new version of the program as well. The developers added auto-detect functionality to MailStore Home 10.1 to detect Sent Items folders automatically.

Another IMAP related change is that IMAP-TLS is the default for new profiles starting with this version. POP3-TLS is the default for new POP3 accounts as well.

Other changes and fixes

A couple of smaller fixes and improvements landed in the new version as well. You may notice that the installation path -- if you use the setup version of MailStore -- of new installations is now set to Mailstore instead of the former name deepinvent.

The developers added a workaround for emails with incorrect character encoding identifiers in the new version which should improve the handling of these emails.

Closing Words

MailStore Home 10.1 gets better with every release. The program is completely free of charge for personal use, and mighty when it comes to support for various email mailboxes, desktop programs, and online services.

German software often has the same qualities as German tools. Reliable, geared to the task, un-flashy and un-fashionable. Also : for physical tools, expensive. Not so, apparently, with virtual tools…
