It sometimes may be impossible to remove a security application completely from a Windows system using the program's built-in uninstaller. Many companies have created uninstallers for their applications that users can run independently on systems where security  applications need to be removed from. These programs usually remove all traces of a program from the hard drive, Registry and other locations that it may have made changes to.

The third party software AppRemover has been designed to provide you with options to remove all of those security applications thoroughly in one go, which is helpful if you need to remove more than one program, if the uninstaller does not work, or if no cleaner is being made available by the security company.

Version 3.0 of AppRemover has been released yesterday. The new program version features a new interface and options to remove file sharing programs in addition to security software from Windows installations.

The list of supported applications reads like the who is who in the security and file sharing industry. Software from popular companies such as Avira, Bitdefender, Symantec, Kaspersky or Bittorrent Inc is recognized by the program automatically. The list of applications found to be installed on the system is displayed after a short system scan. Here it is now possible to pick one or multiple programs that you want to remove.

AppRemover uninstalls the selected programs silently in the background without user interaction. That's especially comfortable if you want to remove multiple programs from the system. The program removes all traces of the program from the system completely which can be helpful if the program's own uninstaller did leave traces of it on the system.Sometimes these traces may prevent the installation of updated versions of the software or alternative software. A status message is displayed in the end that may also include information that a reboot is required to complete the full uninstallation of the selected programs from the system.

AppRemover is compatible with all recent versions of the Microsoft Windows operating system including the recently released Windows 8. It supports more than 100 different security applications and more than 10 public sharing applications. A list of supported programs is accessible on this page.

You are presented with options on first start to install AppRemover on the system or run it without installation. Pay attention to this dialog as you may end up installing a toolbar on your system and with new home pages and default web search engines. The best option to avoid this is to select the no installation option in the menu.

The program is handy to have, especially if you run into issues uninstalling security software on your computer. It can also speed up things if you need to remove multiple applications from your PC.

Could be a useful tool. But, I think as tech-heads we shouldn’t be recommending any software that comes with toolbars and other nonsense. The majority of users looking for simple solutions will often go for the default option get suckered into installing such adware and then be unable to recover their browser settings…
