Amazon launches Free Games with Prime on Twitch
I have to admit that I did not pay a lot of attention when Amazon announced Twitch Prime some time ago even though I'm an Amazon Prime customer.
Amazon acquired the game streaming service Twitch a while ago and added an option to Twitch to link an account on the site to an Amazon account.
Doing so is beneficial to Amazon customers as it unlocks ad-free viewing, free loot that includes free commercial games, and discounts for some games on Amazon.
Linking the account is beneficial if you use Twitch or play games every now and then.
Twitch's Joveth Gonzales announced yesterday on the official Twitch blog that Free Games with Prime is coming to Twitch in the coming months.
Free Games with Prime on Twitch
Free Games with Prime starts on March 15 and runs for at least two months. It hands out a selection of free games to Twitch Prime members; all that is required is to sign in on Twitch and claim the games to add them to the account.
The following titles will be available in March:
- Superhot
- Oxenfree
- Mr.Shifty
- Shadow Tactics
- Tales from Candlekeep Tomb of Annihilation
I played two of the games, Mr. Shifty and Shadow Tactics, already and liked them a lot. Mr. Shifty is a fast paced violent action game in which you control a character with shifting capabilities. It works like little teleports and helps you pass walls and do better in fights.
Shadow Tactics is a tactical strategy game set in Japan around the Edo period. The game plays similarly to the classics Commandos game if you remember it.
Twitch plans to unlock five additional games in April 2018. They are:
- Tales from the Borderlands
- SteamWorld Dig 2
- Kingsway
- Tokyo 42
- Dubwars
I did not play any of these games but a quick check on Steam and other sites indicates that they are well received.
You need to claim the games on Twitch during the period in which they are offered. Simply click on the "crown symbol" on Twitch to display the available offers and claim those that you are interested in. The games are added to your Twitch account then and should remain there even after the offer expires (at least until now, games were not removed after you claimed them).
To play them, you need to download the Twitch Desktop client. You find the games listed in it when you sign in, and can install them in the client then to play them.
Closing Words
While you do need to link your Amazon Prime account to a Twitch account to take advantage of the free game offers, it is worth it in my opinion if you like to play computer games. The games offered are quite good and well received from what I can tell, and you get new free game offers regularly on Twitch as long as you maintain your Prime membership.
Now You: What's your take on Twitch and Twitch Prime?
Twitch has taken over my computer an won’t even uninstall I had to back and use acronis to get my computer back,
Twitch IS A SCAM,
taking over my startup same on Amazon I am Unistaling.
Giving free games looks like a nice service, but it is not at least not like this.
– you have to link your Amazon Prime to Twitch Prime
– you don’t get keys for Steam of similar
– one game requires an additional registration at Epic linking Twitch account to it
– another game requires to install Twitch desktop client to get the game
– lets see what future games will require
This is not a service, it is punishment and data collection.
