If you are looking for a quick way to copy music from your Apple iPod to a computer you may find the software iPod Folder which is available for Windows and Mac more than suitable for the task. You can start the transfer of the music with just three clicks.

The first click selects the iPod that is connected to the computer, the second click selects the destination folder on the computer and the third starts the transfer of the music to the system. Make sure you connect your iPod to your computer before you run the tool as you may run into detection issues otherwise.

The tool can be configured to copy only mp3 files, retain the mp3 folder structure of the iPod and to overwrite existing files. The size of the music collection on your Apple iPod is shown as soon as you select the correct drive letter of the iPod.

The space on the hard drive is however not listed in the application which makes it a bit of a guessing game if the music will fit on the hard drive if space is low. While this should not be an issue usually, it is better that you check the available hard drive space to make sure that all files fit on the drive.

The biggest advantage of iPod Folder is in my opinion that is it a portable application. This means that you can copy the software to your iPod and use it on another computer without having to download it before you can start copying the music from the iPod.

iPod to Folder is a free program for Microsoft Windows and Apple Mac OS X systems that enables you to quickly backup all the music from the device to your system.

If you prefer the official way, you can check out Apple's extensive support page that details how you can move iPod music to a new computer.

It involves enabling disk use on the iPod and the use of Apple's iTunes software on the old and new computer.

If you just want to move all music on the iPod to another computer, then using a program like iPod Folder is your best option to do so, provided that the computer is running Windows or Mac OS X.

Update: Ipod Folder is no longer available on the original website. We have uploaded the last release version of the application to our own download server. Note that we have done so for archiving purposes, and that we don't support the program in any way. You can download it with a click on the following link: (Download Removed)

i prefer using idump.exe. It’s only 195k, and essentially does the same thing. But this isn’t bad at all. Good find.
