Avira Prime is a powerful security suite that protects all of your devices from security and privacy threats, and includes system maintenance tools on top of all that. Most Internet users access the Internet on a variety of devices, mobiles, tablets, desktop systems or laptops. All of these require good protection.

Avira Prime delivers that, and more. You can install and run the program on Windows and Mac devices, as well as devices that run Android or iOS. Instead of using different apps on your devices, you use a best-in-class security solution that you are familiar with on all of them.

Avira Prime Features

Avira Prime features fall into the three main groups security, privacy, and system maintenance. All of these work well together to provide users with a complete package.

The company received the highest award level at AV Comparatives latest malware protection and performance tests.

Besides efficient protection against security and privacy threats, Avira Prime does include a VPN that is not limited, a software update, password management functionality, secure browsing extensions that block ads and malicious sites, and more.

The Windows version offers a streamlined interface that is easy to use but does not sacrifice functionality. The dashboard displays a smart scan button to quickly scan the system, and links in the menu to open the three main areas security, privacy and performance.

Smart scan takes less than a minute to complete, and it will reveal important issues identified on the device, all sorted underneath the three main categories for easy recognition.

Issues are color coded to make things even easier. You can fix all issues right away, or click on any of them to get details, and deselect some or even all of them.

Security tools

The security section includes links to virus scans, the built-in firewall, the software updater, quarantine, and protection options.

Protection Options displays the core protection modules Real-time protection, web protection, email protection and ransomware protection. You can disable these here, but most users should leave them enabled.

You can run full and quick scans on the device under virus scans. There is also an option to create, run and schedule scans. Avira Prime lists nine preset scans, some of which are run on a schedule already, and an option to create custom scans and schedule them.

Preset scans include scans for rootkits, removable drives, Windows system, or a full system scan. Custom scan supports selecting a folder that you want scanned, and optionally a frequency, e.g. daily or monthly.

The software updater detects outdated programs on the system and includes options to update all or selected programs right from the interface. The entire process is very comfortable as the updating happens silently in the background.

Outdated programs may have security issues, and new versions may introduce performance improvements or new features.

Privacy tools

privacy

The Privacy section lists several protections that improve privacy on the system and while using the Internet. You find the VPN there, to connect to it and protect your device's IP address online.

Prime users have no limitations when it comes to using the VPN, and the solution is integrated into the desktop application so that it can be used right away and does not require an extra download.

Browser Safety and password manager work hand in hand with major web browsers on the system. These block ads and trackers, and also highlight better deals when you are doing online shopping.

File Shredder is another useful tool built-into Avira Prime. You may use it to delete files permanently on the system, so that they cannot be recovered anymore.

Privacy Settings tweaks privacy options on the Windows PC. You can do that automatically with a click, or go through the available options manually to change settings after your review. The available options are as extensive as those of the most popular privacy tweakers for Microsoft's Windows operating system.

You may use the tool to disable the sharing of data with Microsoft, disable Telemetry, protect your location and sensor data on the device, and more.

Performance tools

Performance, finally, is the icing on the cake. Use the available options to free up disk space, improve the device's startup time, or check the boot time of the device.

Driver updater is another useful tool under performance. Like the built-in software updater, it is checking for outdated components. Instead of doing so for installed programs, it is checking installed drivers and will notify you about updates that are available. These can be installed from the interface directly.

Mobile versions

Mobile versions can be installed by scanning a QR code in the Avira Prime application, by following links displayed on Avira's website (in the account settings), or by installing them from Google's or Apple's store directly.

Both versions include access to the VPN, security protections and password management.

Closing Words

Avira Prime is the all-in-one solution when it comes to protecting all of your devices against security and privacy threats. It is perfect for Internet users who use different device types and systems, and provides best-in-class protection against security and privacy threats.

Nah!… I’ll wait for GNUnet (see, GNUnet.org) to take hold!… after all, we don’t want to be contributing to the creeps that/ which started the problems in the first place! And, I doubt that this package will address the network bots owned and operated by the NSA, FBI, CIA, the CCP and a legion of other sociopsychopathic internet trolls! Just sayin!
