If you are new in town and like beer, you may be wondering which place has the best beer in town. While you may be able to order your favorite beer if it is a nationwide or even global brand, it may not be as easy if you prefer beer from local breweries instead.
The main idea behind Untappd is to provide you with the means to help you with that. The application has several features but the two core features are to provide you with information about local beer and breweries, and to rate beer.
Rating beer can be interesting if you try new beer regularly and want to keep track of that. It can help you remember if you tried a beer before and how you liked it for instance, and may also help your friends if they happen to use the application as well.
The app requires you to create an account before you can start using it. You can either connect to it using Facebook or create a new account instead.
Once that is out of the way it displays the most recent beer ratings of friends, the app's global and nearby audience.
If you do not have any friends yet, you may like the nearby listing the most as it provides you with beer ratings that other app users have posted.
If you tap on the second icon in the main toolbar you get an option to look up nearby beers, bars, breweries and display a list of trending beers.
The information are based on user contributions which means that you may get some, a lot or none at all for the location you are in. Some options display maps that you can use to find nearby places to drink beer, while others may just provide you with a list that you can click on to find out more about it.
As far as the beer rating is concerned, you can start adding ratings right away. This starts with a search all the time. If the beer is not found you get an option to add it to the database. If it is found, some information are automatically filled out for your convenience.
For each beer that you rate, you may add a location, note rating and photo. Each beer you add this way is added to your personal list of beers that you can check at any time.
If you like to try and taste beer then this application may work well for you. While it does require you to create an account to use it and rely on information published by its members, it can be a great companion app provided that it is being used by others in your region.
