Manage Firefox Web Browser Form History
Form History Control is a browser add-on for the Firefox web browser that you may use to manage saved form data in Firefox.
There are two methods of removing form history data in the Firefox web browser. Form history refers to data that you have entered into web forms at one point in time.
The first option is to remove all data from the Firefox browser by using the browser's built-in Clear History feature (Ctrl-Shift-Del), or by configuring Firefox to clear it on exit or start.
The second method works only on the website the data has been entered but enables you to delete items selectively.
When you enter at least one character in the form on a site, Firefox displays results that are stored in the browser's form history that match it.
To delete an entry highlight it using the mouse or cursor keys and press the delete key on the keyboard afterwards to remove it from Firefox so that it won't be displayed again.
Form History Control
While this may work in some cases it is obviously not the best way of managing form history data. The Firefox add-in Form History Control changes that by adding options to the browser to manage all form history data from one central location in Firefox.
Form History data can be managed effectively after you have installed the add-on. The add-on adds a new entry to the Firefox tools menu that opens the form management control center.
There you find listed all form data saved in the browser with options to filter the data either by keyword, active page, active form or cleanup criteria. It is furthermore possible to sort the data by parameters that include form field name, value, date or popularity.
Each entry can be edited in the interface which is helpful if you want to correct misspelled entries in the history, as you don't have to delete the misspelled entry and create a new one which you would have to do previously.
Individual or multiple entries can be deleted right from within the interface.
The cleanup tab offers settings to automate the removal of form history. It includes options to remove form history data that has not been used for a specified time (default 90 days) and those that have been used less than x times (default 1). Another interesting option is the ability to import and export selected form data which may be interesting to users who work with Firefox on multiple computer systems.
Verdict
Form History Control offers a sophisticated way to manage form data in the Firefox web browser. It is an excellent add-on that is fully compatible with all recent versions of the web browser.
Thanx Martin, one of the more useful add-ons if you ask me.
I checked in the formhistory.sqlite where it gets its info and I have always wondered why when filling forms firefox gives the correct choices (entries used on that particular form/site and not elsewhere) and other places I get whole long list when I start typing. Don’t see how the database IDs and entries are associated with the correct URLs or forms.
