I know that I'm a bit late with this article but I thought I give it a try anyway. Simpsonize Me is a flash application that has been created to promote the new Simpsons movie that was shown in cinemas earlier this year. What it does is that it transforms a closeup picture into a Simpsons character.
All you need is a closeup picture that has at least a size of 640 x 480 and some time to play around with the settings. You select gender, age, color (yellow is the way to go), clothing style and hair to begin the transformation. This is however not the end yet. If the picture is accepted you have the chance to alter certain features of the new character.
You can adjust hair length, hairstyle, clothing and accessories to create a Simpson character the way you would like him. To give you a understanding of how the result can look like I took the liberty to transform a picture of myself. Feel free to post pictures that you have made in that thread.
Update: The Simpsonize Me server is returning a 404 not found error. It is not clear right now if the site has been taken offline or if it is only a temporary issue, for instance while moving the site to another server or updating hardware or software on the server it is hosted on. For now though it is not available anymore and it seems as if it won't come back online.
The closest application is the Simpson avatar creator on the official Simpson's Movie website. While it does not allow you to upload a photo of yourself of someone else, it offers all the features of the original Simpsonize Me Flash application. It may take some customization to get the character to resemble the person that you want to create an avatar for, but the end result may still be worth it.
