Fix for Missing Display Properties

It can happen that the tabs of the display properties are missing after installation of new graphics card drivers or a change of the graphics card itself. You may notice that only the contents of the first tab are displayed in this case, and that there is no option to select the other tabs that are usually available in the menu. The other tabs are still available in the window but not visible so that you can't just click on them to switch tabs.

One option that you have to navigate between tabs is to use the Tab key on the keyword to do so. You can press tab to jump to the next tab in line, or Shift-Tab to jump to the previous one. Hitting Tab on the last tab will jump back to the first tab as well, and hitting Shift-Tab on the first tab will jump to the last one instead. While this method provides you with access to the display properties menu, it is not a permanent solution and it is usually better to apply a fix to resolve the issue completely.

You need to run two commands on the Windows command line to fix missing display properties tabs in the Windows operating system. Use Windows-R to open the run box of the system, type cmd and tap on enter to load the command prompt.

The first command you need to run is regsrv32 themeui. Once done run the following command regsrv32 /i shell32. Please note that you need to restart the PC before the changes take effect. You may alternatively log out and on again.

Those two commands register and install the two dll libraries again which are, among other things, responsible for the display properties dialog.
