Internet Explorer 9 Beta Release Date

If you follow this blog regularly you know that Microsoft had plans to release the first beta of their upcoming web browser Internet Explorer 9 in September. The release date however was not revealed at that time.

Microsoft now started sending out invitations via the web to “celebrate the beauty of the web and Internet Explorer 9 beta”. The celebration takes place on September 15, 2010 in San Francisco, and it seems that anyone can attend.

The Beauty Of The Web site starts with a small word puzzle where letters need to be filled in blanks. Well, it is not the hardest thing to do considering that “Unlocking the xxxxxx web” is displayed. For those who do not come up with the solution, just click Skip Intro in the lower right to be taken directly to the next page on the website.

The next page states “Developers and designers are reimagining the familiar on the web. Join us in celebrating their work. A click on the RSVP button leads to the signup form, again with additional information about the event.

Thank you for your interest in joining us to celebrate the Beauty of the Web and the launch of Internet Explorer 9 Beta!

What can we gather from those information? First, the Internet Explorer 9 logo (Windows Internet Explorer 9) resembles the logo used in the screenshots of part of the new graphical user interface of Internet Explorer, which leaked earlier. This suggests that the leaked screenshots were indeed legit and not fake.

The native web could be a reference to HTML5. Internet Explorer 9 will support HTML5 elements through a new scripting engine. The latest preview releases of IE9 performed well, although not perfectly, in web standards tests like Acid3. Improvement has been made on many levels, and the last element that needs to be revealed is the new graphical user interface of the browser.

Judging from the leaks earlier it seems that Microsoft may go the Google Chrome way, and change the UI only where it makes sense.

We are still unsure if Microsoft is referring to Internet Explorer 9 with the Beauty of the web phrase, or if they will reveal something else on that day. It can be seen as a reference to the new user interface of Internet Explorer.

Why do not you head over to the Beauty of the Web website to confirm your attendance if you live near San Francisco? (via Windows 7 News)
