Developers and owners of the video-conferencing app Zoom aren’t about to be left standing in the dust. If they want to be competitive in the modern age of AI, they need to step up. That’s exactly what they’re doing with some of their latest features, such as letting you know what you missed when late for a meeting.
In one of its latest blogs, Zoom explains how it’s making its features smarter and more helpful to organizations. It’s not surprising, considering how competitors like Google and Skype are already integrating AI into apps and technology. One of the new tools will quickly give you a summary of what happened in a meeting that you’re late for.
So, here’s the premise. There’s a meeting you either forgot about or aren’t ready for, so you end up being about 15 minutes late. Everyone is now frustrated, and not just because you can’t respect their time. The host now needs to explain what you missed, making everyone else sigh impatiently.
Well, not anymore with Zoom IQ. If you end up late for a meeting, you can ask it to quickly update you on what you missed while the others continue. Text will appear on the screen, giving you a quick summary. Then, you can continue listening to what the host has to say.
That’s not the only AI feature coming to Zoom. It can also make chapters for the meeting, while you can ask it for minutes so that no one has to waste time making notes. It can create whiteboards, recap your meeting, engage in text discussions with the group, and even generate replies to your colleagues on your behalf.
Oh, and you know that Huddle feature in Slack. Zoom developers say you’ll have that too for quick video meetings if you need to have a 5-minute discussion about work. Not really innovative, as it’s copying someone else’s idea, but I think this will soon become a common feature among these types of workspaces.
