Microsoft maintains a list of known issues of the new Windows 10 feature update, Windows 10 May 2019 Update or Windows 10 version 1903.

The rollout of the new version of Windows started on May 21, 2019; not every system may be upgraded right away as Microsoft plans to increase the quota gradually to monitor feedback carefully.

The known issues page lists several mitigated issues currently. Some of these issues are minor, e.g. Night Light settings not saving correctly in some occasions while others, e.g. AMD Raid driver incompatibilities or not being able to discover or connect to Bluetooth devices, are major.

All issues are listed as being under investigation currently. Workarounds are available for some.

The following issues are known currently:

  1. Intermittent issues when printing
  2. Safeguard on certain devices with some Intel and Broadcom Wi-Fi adapters (mitigated)
  3. Updates may fail to install and you may receive Error 0x80073701
  4. The dGPU may occasionally disappear from device manager on Surface Book 2 with dGPU
  5. Gamma ramps, color profiles, and night light settings do not apply in some cases (mitigated)
  6. Unable to discover or connect to Bluetooth devices (mitigated)
  7. Intel Audio displays an intcdaud.sys notification (mitigated)
  8. Cannot launch Camera app (mitigated)

Resolved:

  • Audio in games is quiet or different than expected
  • IME may become unresponsive or have High CPU usage

  • Older versions of BattlEye anti-cheat software incompatible

Intermittent issues when printing

A bug affects the print spooler service with the result that print jobs may be canceled or may be failing. Certain programs may close unexpectedly or display an error when that happens, and a remote procedure call error may be displayed.

Safeguard on certain devices with some Intel and Broadcom Wi-Fi adapters

Microsoft and NEC have found incompatibility issues with some devices with Intel Centrino 6205/6235 and Broadcom 802.11ac Wi-Fi cards when running Windows 10, version 1903.

Updates may fail to install and you may receive Error 0x80073701

Installation of updates may fail and you may receive an error, "Updates Failed, There were problems installing some updates, but we'll try again later" and "Error 0x80073701."

Apps using Visual Basic (VB6), VBA, and VBScript may stop responding with error

Applications that were made using Visual Basic 6 (VB6), macros using Visual Basic for Applications (VBA), and VBScript may stop responding and you may receive an error.

Intermittent loss of Wi-Fi connectivity

Some older devices may experience loss of Wi-Fi connectivity due to an outdated Qualcomm driver.

The dGPU may occasionally disappear from device manager on Surface Book 2 with dGPU

Some apps or games that needs to perform graphics intensive operations may close or fail to open on Surface Book 2 devices with Nvidia dGPU.

Initiating a Remote Desktop connection may result in black screen

When initiating a Remote Desktop connection to devices with some older GPU drivers, you may receive a black screen.

Devices starting using PXE from a WDS or SCCM servers may fail to start

Devices that start up using Preboot Execution Environment (PXE) images from Windows Deployment Services (WDS) or System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM) may fail to start with the error "Status: 0xc0000001, Info: A required device isn't connected or can't be accessed".

IME may become unresponsive or have High CPU usage

Some Input Method Editor (IME) including ChsIME.EXE, may become unresponsive or may have high CPU usage.

Resolved.

Audio in games is quiet or different than expected

Microsoft has received reports that audio in certain games is quieter or different than expected.

Resolved.

Some users report issues related to the Start menu and Windows Desktop Search

Microsoft has received reports that some users are having issues related to the Start menu and Windows Desktop Search.

Resolved.

Screenshots and Snips have an unnatural orange tint

When creating screenshots or using similar tools (such as Snipping Tool or Snip & Sketch), the resulting images may have an unnatural orange tint. This issue is caused by the Eye Care mode feature of Lenovo Vantage. This issue started on or around September 5, 2019.

RASMAN service may stop working and result in the error “0xc0000005”

RASMAN service may stop working and result in the error “0xc0000005”
The Remote Access Connection Manager (RASMAN) service may stop working and you may receive the error “0xc0000005” on devices where the diagnostic data level is manually configured to the non-default setting of 0.

Resolved.

Windows Sandbox may fail to start with error code "0x80070002"

The issue affects Windows 10 systems in which the system language was changed during the update process. Windows Sandbox cannot be started on affected devices, and the error "ERROR_FILE_NOT_FOUND (0x80070002)" is displayed in that case.

Loss of functionality in Dynabook Smartphone Link app

Affects the Dynabook Smartphone Link after updating to the latest version of Windows. May affect the display of phone numbers in the call menu and ability to answer calls on the Windows PC.

Resolved.

Gamma ramps, color profiles, and night light settings do not apply in some cases

Microsoft has identified some scenarios where gamma ramps, color profiles and night light settings may stop working.

Display brightness may not respond to adjustments

Affects Windows 10 devices with Intel hardware. Brightness changes may not apply immediately. A restart should resolve that so that the changes are applied.

Resolved.

Audio not working with Dolby Atmos headphones and home theater

Affects the two Dolby Atmos applications that are available on the Microsoft Store and may lead to a loss of audio. Microsoft notes that the issue is caused by a licensing configuration error.

Resolved.

Duplicate folders and documents showing in user profile directory

The issue affects systems on which certain known folders, e.g. Desktop or Downloads, were redirected to another location. Users may see empty folders in the default location after the upgrade.

Update block in place.

Error attempting to update with external USB device or memory card attached

The update to Windows 10 version 1903 fails if an external USB device or a SD memory card is attached to the system during the upgrade. Microsoft notes that this may also affect internal hard drives.

Resolved.

Unable to discover or connect to Bluetooth devices

Compatibility issues with certain Realtek and Qualcomm Bluetooth radios causes discovery and connection issues. Updates to newer drivers may resolve the issues. For Qualcomm, Microsoft recommends drivers greater than 10.0.1.11, for Realtek, driver versions greater than 1.5.1011.0.

Night light settings do not apply in some cases

Night light settings may not be saved under certain circumstances. Microsoft recommends disabling and enabling the feature, or restarting the computer.

Intel Audio displays an intcdaud.sys notification

Windows 10 may display What needs your attention when trying to upgrade systems with certain Intel Display Audio device drivers. If the issue refers to intcdaud.sys, the system is affected and that may result in higher than normal battery usage.

Microsoft recommends that admins click on back to stop the upgrade.

Update block in place.

Cannot launch Camera app

Users on devices with Intel RealSense SR300 and Intel RealSense S200 cameras may not be able to use the Camera app. The error "Close other apps, error code: 0XA00F4243" may be displayed when the Camera app is started.

Temporary workarounds include unplugging the camera and plugging it back in, disabling and re-enabling the driver in the Device Manager, or restarting the RealSense service.

Update block in place.

Intermittent loss of Wi-Fi connectivity

An outdated Qualcomm driver may cause Wi-Fi connectivity issues on "older computers". Microsoft recommends that device drivers are updated to resolve the issue.

Update block in place.

AMD RAID driver incompatibility

AMD Raid systems with driver versions lower than 9.2.0.105 cannot be upgraded to the new version of Windows 10. Installation stops with error messages such as "AMD Ryzenâ„¢ or AMD Ryzenâ„¢ Threadripperâ„¢ configured in SATA or NVMe RAID mode".

Microsoft recommends that users download and install the latest AMD Raid drivers.

Update block in place.

D3D applications and games may fail to enter full-screen mode on rotated displays

Certain Direct3D apps or games may fail to launch fullscreen mode if the default display orientation has been changed.

Microsoft recommends that users run applications in windowed mode or on a secondary non-rotated display, or change compatibility settings of applications and games to "Disable full screen optimizations".

Older versions of BattlEye anti-cheat software incompatible

Games that use older versions of the anti-cheat software BattlEye may cause the entire system to crash after installing Windows 10 version 1903. A newer version of the BattlEye software is available that resolves the issue.

Update block in place.

On many Win10 systems, 1903 installation leaves smart card PC/SC stack not working. USB smart card readers are reported as working devices BUT smart card resource manager answers its service is not started. Smart card aware application report SCARD_E_NO_SERVICE error even when SmartCard Service (ScardSvr service) is reporting as “Running”.

Well after reinstalling three times after getting a random blue screen with 0xc000000e all three times after installing…
I said screw it and have officially went back to Windows 7.
I don’t care what Microshit says anymore. Win10 has been hell for my PC ever since 2015.
Even then, I lost mutliple hard drives because of it. At least 5 of them, with at least 1TB and a half gone from them combined dying because of 100% disk usage from Win10.
    Microsoft knows what they’re doing….
They making their users become the beta-testers instead of beta-testing the OS in-house.

I just updated my Windows and BOY do I regret it. I’ve had one issue after another. The color won’t change on the task bar on the bottom, the color of the clock and such doesn’t change it remains black so if you have a dark purple you can’t see the time and no way to change it. Then the box that allows for task bar and other applications to be applied are grayed out. Another issue I ran into my computer some how switched my son’s email address fo rmy email address causing alot of issues were I had to delete my original account and redo it. My computer has been taking 5 to 7 mins to load up. It’s a mess! I use my computer every day for business purposes and this is going to hinder me from doing my work.

One of my PCs has the “your device isn’t quite ready for [1903]” message.

It’s good that Microsoft has a link outlining the issues, but this doesn’t address what exactly is not compatible on my PC. Why should I have to take a guess at the problem? Probably Microsoft wants to handle the upgrade process transparently themselves once the OEMs have updated their drivers, but I’d still like to know.

This is the worst Windows 10 version ever. Many times when I try to open a program or a browser, the system just hangs, because without me doing anything or having anything open, the system is using 100% of my resources. This isn’t just once in a while. It’s a majority of the time and it’s completely annoying. I think this is my last Windows operating system computer I will ever own. Microsoft is crap and always has been. Since updating to v1903, my sound goes out continuously all day long, I have USB problems I can’t fix, Windows Defender uses way too much of your resources and my system routinely uses 100% of them constantly. You wouldn’t buy a car that needed a tune up every week, so why do we have to put up with an operating system that needs fixing every Wednesday? This is unacceptable and never should be allowed. No business should be allowed to bind you with the contractual agreements that Microsoft has, charge you for a system that is never 100% and get away with it. The only reason Windows 10 was given away for free was because Microsoft owed the DOJ Billions of $$ from laws suits and made a system for them that allows them to spy on the public at will. Two countries have already sued Microsoft for just that reason.

Microsoft Office 2016 deactivates and says there is a hardware change after the 1903 Windows update. Then it will no longer activate. There has been no hardware change and the Office product license is valid and activated prior to the 1903 update. When the pre-1903 update image is restored the Office products are activated and work fine. Every time I try the 1903 update the Office products deactivate.

In 1903 my two file parsers fail to run at all, like Copernic and in Lookeen both showing an error message requiring .net framework v4.0 to be installed, even failing start up (copernic), or erroring every few seconds (Lookeen) until completely stopped. However, the v4.0 framework install aborts, saying it is already included in windows 1903, which contains even a later version 4.8

Version 2019 was a disaster for me. On my first logon after the upgrade, my personal profile failed to load. A reboot solved that issue. Then I noticed all by task bar icons had disappeared as had half my desktop shortcuts. When I opened my browser, all bookmarks had been deleted. I tried to go back to a previous restore point but they had all been deleted. The good news is that I was able to back out to the previous version (1809). I sure hope MS do better next time!

Just updated my OS from 1809 to 1903. It is my main music computer (DAW)

It upgraded fine but when I tried to run either BandLab’s Cakewalk Sonar or Reason 10 I got this error:

Throw RegOpenKeyEx(candidateKey) in copy Estimated Size

Both programs failed to run and I had to go to the TaskManager to shut them down. One DAW, Reason, (latest release) ran just fine.

I ended up going back to version 1809 and everything works fine again.

If anyone has any ideas on why this is happening, I’d appreciate it. I can find nothing about it on the Web.

    Cheers,

Had the same problem when I tried to run Cubase. First it said I didn’t have a licence and I had to upgrade the eLicencer Control Center to the latest version. Then it was trying to install the Yamaha Steinberg USB Driver for some reason (and just froze and wouldn’t finish installing) when I tried to run Cubase.
So then I uninstalled and reinstalled the Yamaha Steinberg USB Driver, and now it works for me.

Ever since the 1903 upgrade all my downloads are capped at 10mb/s and I’ve changed absolutely nothing, so something in this version is throttling the speed limits because I was always up around 32mb/sec on anything I downloaded from the Internet. Anyone else have this issue?

I’d already installed Solidworks 2019 on my device and after updating to version 1903, my device didn’t boot. With try and error, I figured out that if you set the “Secure Boot” none, it boots (It’s in your BIOS or UEFI page).

Hi Jose, that is the exact same stopcode i get when i click on a hyperlink in Outlook 2016 on my Dell laptop. Too bad there isn’t more information because this stopcode is too general to pinpoint the root cause.

This is also the same stopcode my girlfriends gets on her Lenovo laptop when she starts Outlook 2016 or when she tries to open a PDF-document for instance.

So Windows version 1903 broke Office. I performed a repair of my Office, but that did not help.

I don’t feel like reinstalling Office all over again, but that might help. I don’t know. I’m waiting (and expecting) a fix from Microsoft for this big mess.

This is also (not yet) a official reported problem of release 1903, i almost can’t believe it. This must affect a lot of people.

Ram usage jumps to nearly 100% when playing games causing major latency issues. Fps are not affected really but frame times are through the roof, hitting nearly 60 ms. Anyone else having these issues?

I have an issue with 1903 not connecting to exchange servers behind an haproxy load balancer. Works fine with non 1903 clients. Still looking to sort this out, curious if anyone else has seen this. Its exchange 2019 in this example.

Also, Comodo firewall stopped working (Comodo Agent kept crashing). Had to do a reinstall of the firewall, works fine now.

Are you referring to the Outlook problem? My pc is clean as a whistle. But in case you’re not joking.

I have done a full scan with Avast!
        A boot scan with Avast!
        A scan with Hitman Pro.
A full scan with Emsisoft Emergency Kit.
A full scan with Super Anti Spyware.
A full scan with Malwarebytes Anti Malware.
        A scan with AdwCleaner.

My girlfriend has the same rebooting problem with her Outlook 2016. She gets the crash even upon starting Outlook. But also when she wants to open a PDF. She has a different laptop and a different Outlook setup.

So, no malware problem but a Windows 1903 Beta problem where the masses are abviously the testers.

My 2 cents: Minimize/maximize buttons not working. My desktop shortcut icons disappeared, as well as all my document file folders. Forcing me to go into file explorer to find my stuff. In the midst of this, the “old” normal desktop re-appeared briefly with a new color theme, then disappeared on restart. I system restored to a point prior to 1903 update. Now everything’s back to normal.

Windows is making itself a full-time unpaid job.

Ever since I upgraded to 1903, Windows doesn’t read my XMP profile correctly, and sets my memory clocks back to 1600 Mhz. My memory sticks should be running at 3200 Mhz. This is not a BIOS / UEFI issue.

Stardock 10 barely works. Favorites (bookmarks) causes screen to go black and then nothing. Only browser that is not failing is Internet Explorer; attempting to use Chrome cause screen to go black and all icons then refresh. Control panel works sometimes. This is sad that MS released this… had had NO problems with 1809. Hmmm?

Add broken menu button to the list. 4 out of 4 customers experienced this in their sandbox and have withheld the 1903 rollout. The issue is partially correctable, but came back on 2 of the 4 after some fixes were made. All 4 continued to show Cortana and ShellExperienceHost application issues. All 4 customers re-imaged their sandboxes back to 1809 and will wait to see what Microsoft does about this fairly major bug.

If you using NIC teaming on Intel NICS there is an issue with it not working after updating, it’s a known issue Intel have acknowledged with a fix on the way. I think the solution is to uninstall and reinstall the driver, but that did not work for me if broke all the networking and killed the WiFi devices too. Just rolled back to the previous update and all is well again.

On an extremely tangentially related note, the Antergos Linux distribution has just been officially discontinued. Its developers will be releasing a de-Antergosification update in the near future to turn existing Antergos installs into ordinary Arch installs. Users who still want a user-friendly-ish Arch distro are encouraged to switch to Manjaro.

Let’s look at the bright side: Your computer won’t be “upgraded” if you slap anything in a usb port or a SD slot =) It’s 2019, and the OS with almost monopoly can’t get anything right. They’re not even trying anymore. You gotta laugh.. or cry.. Can’t wait for this autumn when the next upgrade comes along, with exciting features like: The volume goes to 11 & Virtual piece of tape for your webcam, only if you sign up for a Microsoft account. Gonna order my “Windows 10 Upgrade Blocker” usb dongles from China now, buy one get a thousand for free. Made by Huawei.

Go ahead, make the jump. Many linux distros already allow volume levels to 11, and beyond! No virtual tape though.. yet. But I think it might be way harder to get infected by RAT on a linux machine than it is on a Windows malwaremagnet. Still, it’s good practice to always do nude yoga or look for pimples between buttcheeks far away from computers.

Oddly enough, Microsoft has been more responsible for reporting and offering advice for any “issues” that are now known to exist as reported on the “official” MS site:

    https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/release-information/status-windows-10-1903

One repeating paragraph beneath each well-explained “issue” is the recommendation to not perform the upgrade, either automatically, manaully, or through the Media Creation Tool:

“Note We recommend that you do not attempt to manually update using the Update now button or the Media Creation Tool until this issue has been resolved.

Next steps: We are working on a resolution and will provide an update in an upcoming release.”

Even approximate times are given for when the “issue” will be resolved. It’s quite the change from previous builds.

Bascially, MS is saying, “Don’t upgrade on a production machine.”

Easy enough to understand, but I already sense multitudinous users upgrading because they are still in the XP mind set that regarded all upgrades and patches essential to security and stability.

Of course, rather than read what MS has already told them, they will go ahead and install the 1903 upgrade [so they can complain?].

    Duh!
