When you think of Amazon’s streaming service, the first thing that comes to mind is Prime Video. However, this is not the only streaming service that Amazon has available. IMDb TV, which was previously called Freedive, is also an option. And it's a free option to boot.

Launched in 2019, the IMDb and Prime Video libraries have been available since then, with their own apps and online streaming options. However, Amazon just released the first dedicated Android app for IMDb TV. All you need to start streaming is an Amazon account, which is free to create alongside the app. There's also no subscription fee for streaming movies or series through IMDb TV. This makes it one of the very few legal and free streaming services available.

Once you have the Android app installed on your device and logged in with your Amazon account, you can start searching for movies, television shows, and even live streams to watch. It's important to note that due to its free nature, there are ads that come up during your stream, as this is how they make their money to continue offering the services for free. Similar to how we watched television years ago, with the ad breaks in the middle.

Although not featuring all the latest movies, and the live streaming is still a bit lacking, there is a solid library of movies and series available for streaming. Some of the films include Ghostbusters, The Wolf on Wall Street, and Boyz ‘n the Hood. Series also include Mad Men, Fringe, and Lost, among others.

The Android app for IMDb TV is currently available on the Play Store and is all you need with your Amazon account to start streaming movies and videos for free. The benefit of having an Amazon account linked to your streaming service is that it allows you to add movies and series to your Watchlist, and ads become more curated for you. After all, if you have to watch ads, rather have them be interesting and applicable to you, right?

Closing words

It has been two years in the making, but Amazon finally delivered on their promise of dedicated Android apps for their IMDb TV’s streaming service. IMDb TV is an excellent option to consider if you are looking for a legal way to start streaming movies and series for free.
