Save Websites to your PC with Local Website Archive
When it comes to saving a web page locally, Internet users have quite a few tools at their disposal to do so. They can use the save as option in their web browser for instance, extract the data from the browsing cache, use a browser add-on like Mozilla Archive Format or use a third party program like Httrack or Local Website Archive for that purpose.
The latter comes in a free for personal use edition that should be sufficient for private use. The program allows you to save individual web pages to your PC. All that you need for that is the web address of the page that you want to save. Firefox users can make use of the extension for the browser to send pages that they are currently viewing in the browser to the desktop program. Local Website Archive on the other hand does pick up the currently active web page automatically as well when you add new pages to the program.
Saved pages can be sorted into different archives and subfolders of the archive. When you click on the add button in the program a wizard is displayed that walks you through the process of adding a website to the local archive..
Here you can either select the active page in a supported web browser (Chrome Dev is, Firefox Aurora is not), or enter the name and url of the page manually into the form. You furthermore select the archive and folder that you want to save the page in to. The pro version supports additional options, like adding from the Clipboard, queuing documents or importing documents from a local folder.
Once you have made your selections here, you see a rendered version of the page before it is downloaded to the PC and archived. Local Website Archive gives you two options to cancel the operation, first when the page is rendered, and then after it has been downloaded and rendered in a local preview.
The archives are saved in the program folder which you should consider during installation. You can select the installation directory freely and even turn the standard installation into a portable one if you want to store the archive on an USB Flash Drive for instance.
It takes roughly ten seconds to add a new web page to the archive once you get the hang out of it and have enough screen estate to place the Local Website Archive window and a supported web browser next to each other on it.
One interesting feature that the program ships with is its power search feature that you can use to search all locally saved documents. This can be pretty useful for research or business related purposes.
Closing Words
Local Website Archive is great if you want to save individual web pages to your local PC. Other programs, like Httrack, may be better suited if you want to download lots of pages. If you want to download a Wikipedia page and all linked pages for instance, then Httrack is the better option.

Just want to give a plug to his flagship Website-Watcher which I’ve been using for years. Absolutely fantastic in its ability to customize change detection on websites. (A topic I think you’ve covered before). Unfortunately, unlike the majority of software you cover its not free.
Scrapbook addon for Firefox its the best for this.
