Turrican was one of the great platform shooters on the Commodore 64 featuring awesome music, game play and graphics. It spawned numerous successful sequels and a group of enthusiasts decided to create a Turrican remake which they called Hurrican. They began working on the remake five years ago and released the final version today.

So, head over to Poke52380 and download the new release. Graphics, animations and sounds are great and the game play feels a lot like the original Turrican game. They even included a great tutorial and a two player mode that can be played simultaneously on the same computer.

This is still a great game, mighty hard but great. Go grab it know if you are up for a challenge.

I suggest you play through the tutorial first as it walks you through all basic game mechanics that you will need later in the game to survive. You got a basic gun that you can shoot all the time, a powerline weapon and grenades to beat all the aliens and lifeforms the game throws at you.

You may want to configure the controls to make them a little bit easier to use. They are optimized for a two player game using the same keyboard. So, while you can use the cursor keys to move, using the left Alt, Ctrl and Shift keys for various actions may not be the best solution to play the game effectively.

Here is a video trailer of the game created by the developers that gives you a solid impression of what the game is all about.

The game itself is an excellent remake of the classic game. It may be a bit on the hard side even on easy mode for many "modern" gamers who are used to getting everything handed to them by games, but if you grew up with die-hard games that you had to spend a long time mastering, you will feel right at home.
