I theoretically mentioned the fact that it was possible, and in fact quite easy, to install Wikipedia locally which has several advantages but also one disadvantage. Advantages should be clear; You do not need a net connection to access the Wikipedia contents, you can distribute the solution to as many computers as you want and you can make it available in a local area network.
Richard from Windows Observer was so nice to send me an invitation to the mobile photo blogging community Snapfoo which is currently in beta and invite only. With Snapfoo you can easily send pictures taken with your mobile phone to your Snapfoo profile and integrate it with other web 2.0 sites such as Myspace, Facebook or Twitter as well.
I have been using Digg, the social news portal where users vote on stories submitted by users, for more than two years and I loved it at the beginning. I never understood why there were not more online applications that helped you type faster. Keybr is such an online application that helps you become more productive by training you to type faster. It offers three modes, called lessons in the application, that builds words using a certain amount of keys.
WPanorama is a standalone program and screensaver that is able to display (scrolling) panoramas on your computer screen. The images scroll either horizontally or display several images if orientated vertically. Using the software is not complicated at all. Just download and install it and run it afterwards.

I was recently looking for a way to put Wikipedia on my notebook to be able to access it when I have no Internet connection. A research on Wikipedia revealed that there was an up to date German DVD version but no English version which I think is somewhat strange considering that the English section of Wikipedia has more users than the German section.

The Microsoft Office 2003 Service Pack 3 has been released a bit more than a month ago and is already beginning to cause problems for several users who applied the Service Pack. I would think that a Service Pack adds functionality and fixes security vulnerabilities. This one apparently blocks old file formats from being loaded by Microsoft Office applications.
A friend of mine called me just recently and told me that Windows XP would take a long time before shutting the computer down. He sometimes waited for longer than a minute before everything was turned off. Since I was not able to visit him in the next time I told him about a software that could probably help reduce the Windows XP shutdown time.
I recently came across a download that included several cbr files and I had to put my memory to the test to remember how I would be able to view them. CBR files are Comic Book Archive files that also come as cbz and cbt files. They are actually archives, like rar, zip or tar, that have been renamed to cbr. This has the advantage that a comic book can be distributed in one file that includes all the pages as images.
I like shoes made by Etnies who happen to have a online store where you can create your own shoe. Unfortunately though they only ship to the United States which is why I'm looking for someone who would be so kind to order a pair of custom made shoes for me and send them to my location in Germany afterwards.
I do not like Codec packages. You may ask why that is the case and my answer would be that they tend to install more than is needed to run the videos on your computer. There are also lots of fake codec packages out there that install viruses and trojans on your system.
Am I the only one that is thinking that putting Ads into Adobe PDF documents is not going to be that successful ? Putting contextual ads next to content in PDF documents is going to fail and here is why. Users are not used to ads in documents like PDF or Doc and they will have a hard time convincing users and advertisers to try this new ad form.
So, what do we make of this ? The rumor is that Apple is launching a record label together with Jay-Z according to BSG who say they have confirmed it from a high-up person attached to Jay-Z. I once had to add a image into a Word document that had a black background which looked awful when printing the document. Microsoft Word comes with a few basic possibilities to alter graphics that are added which includes changing colors of the image and defining a transparent color for the image.

System Restore is a function in Windows operating systems since Windows ME that creates so called Restore Points so that the user can bring his system back to a previous state in time. This is important when changes to the system or an attack make the system unresponsive in any way. There is however the danger that malicious files are saved during that process as well which means that they would be restored when the user wanted to revert the system to a previous state.
Microsoft competes with Google in many areas but has still chosen to create a video channel on Youtube to promote Microsoft products. Tiny Url links are a great way to shorten long urls and hide the destination of the link at the same time. I read several PC magazines that use Tiny Url to print urls in their magazine. There is however a certain danger involved because the user does not see where a link is really leading to.
