Mp3tag 3.0 released with improvements
The developer of Mp3tag has released version 3.00 of the application for all supported versions of Microsoft's Windows operating system.
Mp3tag is a long-standing music tagger for Windows; our first review of the application dates back to 2008 (a whooping six years after the first version of Mp3tag was released). Lots of functionality was added to the program since then which has improved its quality even further.
Mp3tag 3.00 can be downloaded from the developer website. While you can only download a setup version, you are asked if you want to install the application or create a portable version when you run setup. You may enable Explorer integration during setup if you want to push audio files from Explorer to the application directly.
The general idea behind the program has not changed at all. You may use Mp3tag to add, edit, or remove tags from audio files. The program started out as a tagger for mp3 audio files but it supports popular formats such as aac, m4a, flac, ape, or wma as well. Integration of audio databases, MusicBrainz, Discogs and FreeDB make the process painless and quick.
The program interface is streamlined and easy to use: load audio files using various ways, e.g, by loading directories or individual files, and use the provided functionality to automatically or manually tag the files.
Mp3tag 3.00 includes new and improved features as well as a huge number of fixes that address issues in previous versions of the program.
One new feature in Mp3tag 3.00 is the ability to adjust the size of cover art; this may be useful if you play music on hardware players that limit cover art size or to reduce the overall size of audio files by reducing the file size of cover art.
Integration of the MusicBrainz database was improved; the tag source comes with two search fields for artists and albums to improve the quality of searches.
Other improvements include better detection of high-contrast modes and visual improvements of menu styles "to conform with system defaults".

Mp3tag is a great program to manage tags of audio files on Windows systems, especially when it comes to tagging. While you may use other programs for that, e.g. Metaogger, Picard or MusicBee.

For tag editing, I use Boom Audio Player by Peter Pawlowski who is one of the devs for Foobar2000. It can edit MP3, Ogg Vorbis, FLAC, Musepack (MPC), WavPack, WAV, AIFF, MP4/M4A, WMA tags.

Foobar2000 does it all, pictures, tagging, replay gain, conversion, etc etc…

This is a good thing. My ripping program is Xld, despite that it usually finds most of the metadata, I have to correct or add details (album artist, work and movement in classical music).
Nothing compares to Picard for album matching from Musicbrainz. I’ve tried all taggers which have Musicbrainz support.I don’t know, maybe because Picard is developed by Musicbrainz foundation. Perfect album matching, even ISRC matching. I personally don’t like to rely on Discogs because it’s not really a music database, it’s a store and it can remove a “product”, so my metadata could eventually lead to non existing ID’s.

I use AIMP Advanced Tag Editor. It comes with AIMP.

I used to use it, but it should be called advanced… I ended to use a portable foobar installation optimized for tagging, renaming and conversion. I prefer it because it has more options and it can show all my metadata coming from Musicbrainz, you can’t customize AIMP metadata. Also I can convert with foobar from FLAC to Apple AAC which is the highest quality AAC codec. AIMP Audio Converter supports only FDK AAC.
Such an awesome program. Glad the author’s still looking after it.
How to convert MP3Tag to portable :
Download the installer and extract using 7-zip (must be v9.20 or above) to a folder of your choice.
Delete $PLUGINSDIR (and $R0 if using the latest 7-zip beta).
Create a blank file in the same folder called mp3tag.cfg.
