userscripts

So called userscripts are small JavaScript files that users can add to web browsers supporting them to add functionality to it. These scripts manipulate page contents on load and do not run in the background all the time which many installed extensions do.

Userscripts exist for a variety of purposes, from removing advertisement on websites to adding download functionality, changing the complete design of a website or even as automated scripts that help you play online games.

Depending on the browser userscripts can be installed right away, which is the case for Google Chrome even though its support is limited, or only after the installation of an extension such as Greasemonkey which is the case for the Firefox web browser.
