We can’t help but be fascinated by this new revolutionary AI model that is causing so much controversy and changing everything that we’ve known for our entire lives. Since the AI model stepped onto the scene in November 2022, it's been giving so many tech companies sleepless nights as they worry about it taking over their search engines and stealing some of their users.

I have used ChatGPT, and I must say it’s a pretty intelligent model whose collaborations have revolutionized search engines such as Bing. Recently it seems the AI model has been malfunctioning as it exposes user history conversations because of a bug. The chat history feature has been disabled since Tuesday morning.

One user posted a photo on Reddit showing several ChatGPT conversations that didn't belong to them. Another user also went on Twitter and posted a screenshot revealing the same bug. A spokesperson for OpenAI confirmed to Bloomberg that the bug wasn't sharing full conversations but only a brief descriptive title of a transcript.

The bug should serve as a reminder that users should be careful about sharing any sensitive information with ChatGPT. The company has also specified that a person's history can't be deleted and could possibly be used for training.  Users might be tempted to share some confidential information as they experiment with using the new AI model. Users are urged to be cautious at all times when it comes to the information they plug into the AI model.

Bloomberg also reported that OpenAI had temporarily shut down ChatGPT on Monday in response to the bug, which was later brought back that night. The chat history sidebar has been replaced with a message which reads, “History is temporarily unavailable as the company is working to restore the feature as soon as possible.” The last update, which was on Monday, states that the service has been restored, although users' histories aren’t back. OpenAI is working on restoring the histories as we speak.

The AI model has had several glitches and problems since its release. From giving inaccurate replies to system problems, we can’t help but wonder what’s next. Although I believe this will be a thing of the past as they work on fixing any issues it presents. This is actually a very common thing, especially with newly released pieces of technology. Even the greatest companies have had their fair share.

ChatGPT’s problem is thought to be a bug that attached itself to an unnamed piece of open-source software. Bloomberg mentions that an investigation into the exact cause is ongoing.
