Of course this emoji problematic rendering is not intentional, why would it be? The only way to gather comments? No rendering issue, how many of us would have commented? One, two, three, none? That’s my tortured mind, always considering possible tactics when not global strategies :=) Truth is often basically simple.

Indeed, Emojis list all displays as only question marks.

Martin, I presume you are aware the Emojis that were ‘copy-and-pasted’ by the author are not displaying correctly within this article.

Your current software configuration doesn’t allow them to be pictorially rendered.

For example, U+1F4A9 ? PILE OF POO (Decimal: 💩 Hexadecimal: 💩)

Possibly referred to as “Poo Pile” by the author, is showing as a question mark “?” suggesting a character encoding issue or font mismatch.

In the “Leave a Reply” textarea the U+1F4A9 icon, I’m now trying to post, is correctly rendered as a little caricature resembling a “pile of poo”.

I also suspect two the NCR values [128169] and [1F4A9] I’ve just typed in the round-brackets above won’t render correctly either – or the text might even get eaten?

It somewhat defeats the objective; posting an article that is supposed to be showing ‘pictographs’ that cannot be rendered, or get substituted by multiple “?”. It won’t be a font glyph mismatch; it’s the blog configuration itself. Since there is no code point difference whatsoever between any of the rendered output: “?” symbols, in the article itself. :-/

Ah, my directly posting the “PILE OF POO” icon into “Leave a Reply” failed… As can be seen my previous test in the line: “For example, U+1F4A9 …”. It got substituted as “?”, i.e. U+003F.

Both the “Decimal” and “Hexadecimal” NCR (Numeric Character Reference) values were converted into PILE OF POO pictogram(s) rather the what I had originally written, i.e. [U+128169] and [U+1F4A9].

I cannot directly write the original NCR text because it’ll automatically get converted (rendered) into the following “face-costume” representation: 💩 and 💩 which should display (twice) as the same pictogram. When viewed via a mainstream Web browser.

Therefore, suggesting this blog supports, but automatically converts NCR input… I’ll try another test: 🙈 🙉 🙊 hopefully it’ll render 3 monkeys – if it doesn’t work, there’ll be 3 consecutive question marks.

Your Honour, I would like to present that evidence now. ;-)

Apparently the “3 monkeys” appeared as expected… Let’s see if the blog also supports Left-To-Right Override: U+202E.

        Left-To-Right Override:

‘Twas brillig, and the slithy toves Did gyre and gimble in the wabe:

‮ ‘Twas brillig, and the slithy toves Did gyre and gimble in the wabe:

It’s not mirror text; however, in the second example, the poem’s ‘letter order’ should theoretically “reverse” when displayed by the Web browser. Both lines are the exact same text samples.

If the ‘letter order’ successfully “reverses” you can copy-and-paste the text into a plain text editor – if you don’t believe me – it’s the exact same text sample.

Your Honour, I rest my case. :D

The only reason i haven’t yet is that there are some older articles that are worthy of keeping, sadly the site itself has no place for new information apart from getting bombarded with useless information.

Martin, thx for all the years of service but the direction the site has taken really leaves me feeling sorry for you if I’m honest
