Report: Opera Browser may get its own ChatGPT integration
Opera browser, a popular desktop and mobile web browser, could soon get its own integration of the language model ChatGPT. The report comes from CNBC, which cites Opera's parent company Kunlun Tech as the source for the news.
CNBC admits that there the information is limited to the intent to integrate ChatGPT into Opera products. Opera Software maintains a range of software products, including several web browsers for desktop and mobile operating systems. For desktop systems, there is Opera browser and Opera's gamer focused Opera GX web browser. There is also a special version of Opera browser for Google Chromebooks. On mobile, there is the regular Opera mobile browser, Opera Mini and also Opera Crypto Browser.
While all of these products may be targets for the integration of ChatGPT, the main desktop browsers are the most likely candidates for integration. Opera's main mobile browser could also see the integration at one point.
Earlier this week, Microsoft announced integration of OpenAI technology, the maker of ChatGPT, into the company's Microsoft Edge web browser. The company highlighted two AI-powered features, Chat and Compose, that will be coming to users of the Edge browser in the future.
Chat adds a ChatGPT-like feature to Edge, which enables users to communicate with the AI right in the browser. Compose, on the other hand, helps users compose text. Microsoft demoed several features, including the writing of emails and social media posts using different tones and lengths.
Google did not announce direct integration of its AI chatbot Bard into the Chrome web browser during Wednesday's presentation. The reception was probably not what Google expected it to be.
Opera browser is used by hundreds of millions of users. Statcounter, a company that tracks usage of browsers, operating systems and more, lists Opera with 2.4% of the entire browser market worldwide. While it trails behind Google Chrome's more than 65% of the market and Safari's more than 18%, it is doing almost as good as Mozilla Firefox is with its 3% of the market.
Kunlun Tech is a Beijing-based company that is listed on the Shenzhen stock exchange. Chinese search giant Baidu announced plans earlier this week to integrate a ChatGPT-style boot into its search product.
Opera Software's press release sheds some light on the company's plans regarding generative AI. According to the company, Opera Software plans to add "popular AI-generated content services to the browser sidebar" and to augment "the browsing experience with new features that will interact with these new generative-AI-powered capabilities".
The company revealed a new shorten feature that would be the first of such integrations. It may summaries webpages or articles using AI.

That’s so stupid. I use Opera.
It seems like Opera are just chasing fads. Before this they made a gamer browser called Opera GX. After that it was the rise of the crypto bros so Opera made a browser for that too – Opera Crypto or whatever it’s called.
Now it’s this crap.
I wonder if they will make a separate browser for it and call it Opera GPT or something or will they integrate into the regular Opera. Either way, it’s just more useless bloat.
The only reason I keep using Opera is somehow no matter how much bloat they add to it, it keeps being blazing fast, faster than any other browser.
I am not convinced that such integration is FORCED. You will definitely be able to choose the “without” option. Opera is the most scalable browser available on Chromium.
I’ll tell you what’s stupid – I’ve used edge, chrome, firefox, brave, opera, safari – and have yet to come across a “slow browser”, it’s just not a thing, they’re all relatively speedy, and i’m the kind of person to always right click “open in a new tab” so I get 10+ tabs within about 10 mins of browsing, and only more from that point on.
The way I see it, anyone using “reskinned chromium” who somehow thinks there’s any big difference between the chromium browsers, or who thinks their reskin is somehow better than the original which is made by the developers – must be a sucker. No offence

I’ve been switching between browsers since around 2007. First I was a big fan of Firefox because it had a proper ad-block add-on and Opera was a joke. Then Chrome came and while at first it had no extensions, it was much faster than Firefox.
Then as time went on and Chrome established itself, it gradually became slower, but still faster than Firefox, which at this point was just copying Chrome for all the wrong reasons.
In around 2014 Opera was sold and they switched from Presto to Blink and suddenly Opera was worth using again and also pretty fast and good. Over the years they keep adding useless crap to it, but it doesn’t seem any slower.
I’ve tried Brave, Vivaldi, Edge, Kinza, Sleipnir, SRWare Iron, Iridium, Coc Coc, Slimjet, Cent, Waterfox and many more. Out of them only Edge and Brave were better.
Edge (Chromium) was fast and amazing when it was still in beta, but when it became officially released it became garbage – intrusive, nagging, like malware, I uninstall it whenever it auto installs itself back.
Brave is no different than Chrome now – it’s OK in terms of speed, but after about 2 weeks of browsing, like Chrome it starts slowing down so I have to clean my profile, delete cache and whatnot to revert it to how it was and it’s annoying.
I don’t know what Opera is doing differently, but I can feel the difference – after 2 weeks or even months or years, it doesn’t slow down like other Chromium browsers do. Maybe it has some settings for aggressive loading of websites or something, I don’t know. Before I’ve encountered some Chinese browser with 365 in its name that had an English version, but is no longer updated. It is a reskinned Chromium and it was obvious they have changed some settings on how aggressively it loads websites, because no matter on how many different computers I tried it, it was significantly faster compared to any other freshly installed browser, too bad they stopped updating the English versions.
I don’t know why you think you know more than others and just think that Chromium reskins are the same as regular Chrome. Everyone who makes their own Chromium browser can adjust some settings under the hood to make their browser a bit different. And it’s not like Firefox with about:config, in Chromium’s about:flags you can only change flags that are there, you can’t create your own parameters so whatever changes browsers like Opera or Brave have are on a much different level.
If you don’t want to believe me that Opera is much faster than other Chromium browsers, that’s up to you, it’s not my life’s goal to convince you. Opera is much faster for me compared to the rest and that’s all I need.
Use whatever you want and believe in whatever you want. I’ve used enough browsers for long enough to be able to tell a difference when I see one.
Me also. I just every day search defferent sites, in every chromium browser, with many tabs. But Chrome disappointent me. I’ll stick to Opera.
Iam using Opera from .3gp mobile era. In pc, was the best option, when it comes for privacy, is very customizable browser and nowdays has its own adblock and vpn. The ChatGTP might make it better, but as far as is on beta search version, I stick to classic searching method.
