YouTube Premium Lite is a new YouTube subscription plan that disables advertisement on YouTube for €6.99 per month. The plan is being tested in several European countries currently such as Denmark, Belgium or Sweden.

Unlike YouTube Premium, which is available for €11.99 per month, YouTube Premium Lite does not include any other benefit. YouTube Premium includes video downloading functionality, background playback support in the official apps and access to YouTube Music Premium.

Update: Google announced the end of YouTube Premium Lite.

YouTube Premium Lite, which you can access here, removes ads on all devices that support YouTube and allow you to sign-in to your YouTube account, including the Web version, Android and iOS applications, smart TVS and gaming systems. YouTube Kids won't show advertisement as well when a subscription is active.

Only YouTube's own advertisement is disabled when a subscription is active. Many channels have started to add sponsored messages and other forms of advertising to their videos as well in recent years.

Tip: you may skip some sponsored messages in videos with the SponsorBlock extension.

Google has been pushing ads on YouTube heavily in that time as well, and announced recently that it will show ads for all videos that are hosted on the site. Previously, videos were not shown under some circumstances, for instance if a publisher did not join the YouTube Partner Program.

Ads may be displayed before a video plays, while a video plays and after a video played. Some of these are skippable after a 5 second wait period, others are not.

YouTube users may watch YouTube without ads on their TVs and also on their devices, and YouTube video downloads are supported by programs such as Internet Download Manager.

Closing Words

YouTube Premium Lite is available for €6.99 per month, one Euro less than a 1-month Netflix subscription.

YouTube reached 30 million Premium subscribers and 2.3 billion users in 2020. It generated 19.7 billion Dollars in revenue in that year.

The new subscription plan is in testing currently: while it seems likely that it will be introduced worldwide eventually, there is no guarantee that this will be happening. Google might end it if too many YouTube Premium subscribers change their subscription to YouTube Premium Lite.

Personally, I think that ads on YouTube are too many, too aggressive and that mid-video ads reduce the enjoyment of many on the site.

Now You: what would you pay for an ad-free experience on YouTube?

Those raving about adblocking, yt vanced etc. as if it’s some sort of a “gotcha” for defeating the Google are unaware that Google is allowing it. They are perfectly capable of neutralizing any adblocking on YouTube if they decide to go about it. We tech savvy users should be more humble about it and be thankful to still fly under the corporate radar.

Wow they have an inflated sense of Youtube’s worth. Youtube is 99% time wasting entertainment.

Here’s a fun story, somewhat related to all this: My dad is in some facebook group where basically our whole little towns old geezers and crazy old catladys complain about everything. Some old hag there complained about ads in her youtube and my dad who has hated her since 1974 lost it. He has no ads in his youtube and you can go to Hell and take your ugly dog with you! Then the rest of town joined in, everyone had ads in their youtube and ganged up on my dad. It got ugly. Words were said, friendships were laid to waste. The oldtimers were going at it like it was D-Day! My dad still called absolutely everyone names and questioned their mental capabilities as well as sexual capabilities, hardcore insisting that there are no ads in youtube!!! This spiralled out of control, shitstorm of biblical proportions.
My dad told me about it.. You should have seen the look on his face when I told him: “Dad, sit down. You know how I have to fix your computer every time I visit..? One of the things I have done, is I installed an adblocker for you so you don’t see any ads” You could see his brain disintegrating.. “you, you WHAT??” Now he is pig-biting mad at me, it’s now MY fault he can’t show his face anywhere in town. A public apology in his beloved FB group is of course out of the question =)

What ads? I don’t remember the last time I saw one. Thanks to YouTube Vanced developers and community, I don’t even see any useless parts of most videos like creator ads, self-promotion segments, intros, credit.

there are plenty of other caching services for popular channels that are free and simple to use, some of the better ones have kodi/jelly plugins and avoid all the hassle of youtube.

Google likely makes enough money selling the metrics of who watches what, when, how and where to cover the costs running the service and kicking back a little to the creators. BUT HEY GUYS HERE IS MY PROMO CODE AND PATREON LINKS SO YOU CAN SEND ME MONEY.

There’s nothing worth that price watching on YouTube.

As others have noted, decent adblockers already do this. Maybe the google data collecting “solutions” (We’ll live in your drawers one way or another) are better on the surface but no way I’m paying either of those extortion prices for them or ever log in except to upload vids.

Even with no ads, my tiny channel is slathered with “don’t ‘cha wanna ___” so badly, it’s hard to get to my own playlists.

This is ridiculous, acting like uBO and Vance don’t exist. Greed.

uBO + Newpipe and no youtube logins. For channel new videos updates, best thing is to create a Feed URL, with Newpipe subscription as an added option in Android.

If you really don’t want any YouTube logins there is FreeTube which is like NewPipe for desktops.

Yeah Freetube is very good, on desktop I use uBO on Firefox without Google login, with Feed URLs to see channel videos updates aka subscription without account. But definitely Freetube is in my explore list for sure.

One question, does subscriptions in Freetube allow channel posts as well along with videos updates obviously, coz some creators upload videos on other channel with channel post as a way to get updates about them? As it is not possible with Feed URLs or Newpipe, right now I have bookmarked some channel pages(only about 24) and check them once in a week for new post updates.

I wonder (rhetorical question) if this is step two to the up measure to block all apps that block commercials?

Ublock Origin + Sponsor Block (automatically skips the sponsored content) is better experience than premium will ever be.
Why pay 7 bucks when most channels have 2 minutes sponsor segways, multiple tiers memberships, plus Patreon.

It was good while it lasted.

    Ublock Origin.

    NewPipe.

    You’re welcome.

For an ad-free YouTube experience I am willing to pay zero, in any currency.

Google has enough money, Google doesn’t produce any content on YouTube. In fact Google hosts a staggering amount of copyrighted stolen illegally uploaded content, and now has the audacity to charge for it if you want to go ad-free. I support NOTHING that shows ads. If I can’t block the ads, I don’t use the site. Ads are cancer, ads are covid. If you can’t put food on the table without throwing ads in peoples faces, get a real job.

This is simple extortion. “Pay us money or else we will bombard you with advertisements for products and services in which you haven’t the slightest interest.
