Google Plus has been released in a bare bones version. While tech savvy users flock to it like crazy, it is in its current stage nothing more than a site to follow, be followed and exchange messages. Well, that's not entirely correct as you get chat and a few other things as well. Still, essential features like advanced search options are missing.
That's where third party sites like Find People On Plus step in. While it is likely that those sites will die when Google adds the features natively to Google Plus, they do fill the gap in that meantime.
Find People On Plus is more than a basic people search engine. When you open the site you see a list of the most popular Google Plus users currently indexed. About 1 million users of the confirmed ten million are currently indexed, that's not bad but not super impressive either.
What most users will like are the filtering options on the left sidebar of the web page. Here it is possible to filter by parameters like relationship, occupation, following and follower numbers, country, state or even city.
Even better, the search can filter those parameters as well. Unlike Google Plus' original search, it can not only search by name, but also by location, profession or any other data that users add to their accounts.
You could enter a city like New York, Boston or London and get users from that city, and a few others that list London in their profile.
Each name has a plus icon next to it which users can click on to open that user's profile on Google Plus. There it is then possible to look at the profile and follow that user.
Find People On Plus is not the only way to find people on Google's social networking site. A simpler way would be to search on a search engine like Google. You can use the site:plus.google.com parameter followed by a search term, a location, profession or anything else that you want to find on Google Plus.
Update: The Find People on Plus service is not available anymore. You can use an alternative service such as gglpls instead which offers a similar functionality.
Advertising revenue is falling fast across the Internet, and independently-run sites like Ghacks are hit hardest by it. The advertising model in its current form is coming to an end, and we have to find other ways to continue operating this site.

Ghacks is a technology news blog that was founded in 2005 by Martin Brinkmann. It has since then become one of the most popular tech news sites on the Internet with five authors and regular contributions from freelance writers.
It doesn’t make sense to me to have to go to a third party site to search for people on google+. It should just be part of the google+ system to find people based on subject and interest. Why make a social network more difficult? It should make things easier by integrating all the essentials, and finding people to follow according to interest is essential in my opinion.
If I may ask, why is it that only 1 million out of the 10 million users is indexed?
I’m absolutely novice as far as social networks are concerned, need I say.
Probably because they have no api access but need to use search engines or their own bots.
