If you are a user of the highly popular classifieds website Craigslist you may have asked yourself if there is an option to display attached images right on the general listings page and not only on the individual pages.
You can enable a single thumbnail image on Craigslist with a click on the show images preference, but that image is more often than not to small to see an item properly.
You currently have to click through to see images that are attached to a posting on Craigslist, which quickly becomes a nuisance if you only want to look at listings with image attachments. Image attachments are indicated with pic next to an items price, so that you at least do not have to go through all postings.
The Google Chrome extension Craigslist Image Preview is in this case exactly what you are looking for. Firefox users can skip right to the second part of this article where a Firefox alternative is briefly reviewed.
It will scan Craigslist pages automatically once installed. Images and photos that are found in the postings are automatically displayed on the category pages on Craigslist.
All images of a post are automatically shown on the category pages or searches on Craigslist, which makes it a lot easier to go through all postings quickly to find those of interest.
The photos are displayed as thumbnail images to save space on the Craigslist category pages. The size is however equal to that of the full image that is shown on individual posts on Craigslist, which means that you will use more bandwidth on Craigslist than before, unless you click on all posts of a category.
Chrome users can download the Craigslist Image Preview Extension from the official Google Chrome store.
CLIP: CraigsList Image Prefetcher is a Firefox extension with pretty much the same functionality as the Chrome extension. The core differences are outlined below:
The Firefox add-on adds a button to the status bar that can be used to enable or disable the image preview feature. It offers additional preferences, like a standardized image preview size and the option to limit the amount of images displayed on screen. Another benefit is that the images are a linked to the post, so that you can click on the image previews or the post title to open the post page.
Firefox users can install the extension directly at the official Mozilla Firefox add-on repository.
Update: The add-on has been removed by its author from the add-on repository. An alternative is CLPics which adds image previews to Craigslist listings.
