Windows 7 Taskbar Thumbnail Customizer
Windows 7 Taskbar Thumbnail Customizer is a free program for Windows 7 devices to customize the display of thumbnail previews.
One of the new features of the Windows 7 operating system is the taskbar preview feature which displays a thumbnail preview of taskbar items whenever you move the computer mouse over the icon in the taskbar.
Windows 7 displays thumbnails of program windows plus additional information when you do so.
The information includes the title of each open window, if multiple ones are opened. While you may not be able to open multiple instances of any program, you may do so for some. This is the case for Explorer windows, web browser windows and many other programs.
The thumbnail preview feature comes in handy if you want visual confirmation that you are about to select the right program window before clicking on it.
A practical example would be multiple Windows Explorer windows that are open. To access a specific one you would need to click on items until the target was found if tiles are identical (and no thumbnails displayed as was the case in previous versions of Windows.
Windows 7 makes the selection process easier thanks to the preview thumbnails.
The information that is displayed cannot be customized in Windows 7, at least not in the Control Panel, or by checking the properties of the taskbar.
Windows 7 Taskbar Thumbnail Customizer
The Windows 7 Taskbar Thumbnail Customizer program changes that. It can be used to change several parameters of taskbar thumbnail in Windows 7. This includes the minimum and maximum size of thumbnail previews, spacing, delay time and margins.
The program displays all options in its interface when you start it.
- Maximum and minimum size of thumbnails.
- X and Y spacing of the previews.
- Top, bottom, left and right margins of each thumbnail image.
- Delay time before it is displayed after hover.
Sliders next to each parameter can be used to change the values. It is for instance possible to increase the thumbnail size from the standard value of 200 pixels to a maximum of 512 pixels and a minimum of 0.
The parameters are self-explanatory and the Restore Defaults button ensures that the default values can be restored if needed. You may need to experiment with a couple of settings until you get the right ones that you find satisfactory.
The portable software program can be downloaded from The Windows Club website.
