WordPress Comment Notifier is a desktop application for the Windows operating system that can - currently - monitor one WordPress blog for new comments.
Notifiers can improve the workflow of a computer user. They come in three flavors usually: as desktop programs, browser add-ons, or mobile applications. All options have distinct advantages and disadvantages, but have in common that they inform you about updates independently from the site or service that was updated.
Notifiers may inform you about new emails, new Facebook messages, new posts on other social networking sites, new blog posts, or new comments of a WordPress blog.
WordPress Comment Notifier falls into the desktop program category. It displays a notification to the computer user whenever a new comment is posted on the monitored blog.
Please note that it requires a user account with enough privileges on the WordPress site to function properly.
The comments are sorted automatically in the three categories approved, pending and spam which makes it easier for management purposes.
A double-click on the notifier window opens a bigger window that displays all approved, pending and spam comments of the WordPress blog. All comments can be edited, deleted, replied to, set as spam or no spam, unapproved and opened from within the notifier's interface.
The notifier checks for new comments every five minutes but you may change the interval. Adding the WordPress blog to the notifier is a straightforward process. All it takes is to enter the main url of the blog, as well as the username and password of the user account capable of moderating comments. The two roles that support this are administrator and editor.
We recommend to create a new user, and use the login credentials of that user to moderate the comments.
WordPress Comment Notifier can be downloaded from its Google Code project website. WordPress Comments Notifier is a handy program for WordPress admins who work on Windows devices. It enables you to moderate comments directly from the Windows desktop without having to open the blog at all.
We did not run into any issues while using the application. The one thing missing is support for multiple blogs, as you can only use it for a single site currently.
Update: The program is no longer available. We have uploaded a copy of the program to OneDrive. Please note that we don't support it in any way, and don't guarantee that it will work on your devices. Click on this link to download WordPress Comments Notifier to your device.
Advertising revenue is falling fast across the Internet, and independently-run sites like Ghacks are hit hardest by it. The advertising model in its current form is coming to an end, and we have to find other ways to continue operating this site.
We are committed to keeping our content free and independent, which means no paywalls, no sponsored posts, no annoying ad formats (video ads) or subscription fees.

Ghacks is a technology news blog that was founded in 2005 by Martin Brinkmann. It has since then become one of the most popular tech news sites on the Internet with five authors and regular contributions from freelance writers.
