Ever wondered about the actual size of an object and how it would compare to everyday items like a sheet of paper? Do the additional 6.4mm depth of the HTC Touch Pro in comparison to Apple's iPhone really matter? It is easy to compare the values and see which device is larger or thicker but it's difficulty to actually know how that size difference looks in real life and whether it matters at all or is not visible at all.

Sure you could use a ruler to get an understanding of how the objects compare to each other; Or you could visit Sized Up, a website that visualizes objects in 3D. Working with the service is a breeze. All that is needed are the height, width and depth of at least one object in millimeters or inches that you need to enter on the site's main page. Once you do, you get a visual representation of the device in 3D and a couple of other view modes right on that page.

It is possible to enter multiple items to compare them against each other or pick one of the default items from the service like a box of matches, a CD case or different paper sizes. Entering multiple items can be really interesting to compare smartphones, tablets or mp3 players for instance.

Every comparison that has been saved by users of the website can be looked at. Most items are electronic items like mobile phones and laptops but you find the occasional odd comparison like a Boeing 747 and Antonov 225.

The comparisons can provide you with visual information about devices that you are interested in. If you do not have anything to compare right now, you can check out the most popular comparisons the site has to offer, or take a look at more recent comparisons instead.

I’ve known about this site for about a year, and although I don’t use it much, it is very handy to have in your web tools. I found it especially usefull when eyeing up netbooks, to work out size vs features.
