I recently received some emails asking about the kind of hosting that I was using for ghacks.net and I decided that it would be a nice idea to write about it in an article. Ghacks is running on a dedicated server provided by the German company Hetzner with the following details: AMD Athlon 64 3700+ cpu, 2 GB DDR 400 Ram, 2x 160 GB SATA hard drives, unlimited traffic and Suse 10.0 as its operating system.
I never experienced problems with the server and the price will blow most of you away I think, it is only 59 Euro a month with everything included. 59 Euros are about 70$ a month, still a bargain I'd say. Some of the services they offer are free phone support, 24/7 reset service, full root access (of course), 50 GB backup space, six IPs and much more. The link above is a link to their English page.
They offer three different kinds of rootservers besides the one that ghacks is hosted on. The cheapest for 29 Euros a month, the most expensive one for 79 Euros. I don't think you can find a company that is able to compete with that, well not many at least.
You are free to choose one of the following Linux operating systems when you setup the account:
32-Bit:
64-Bit:
I can really recommend them..
Update: We have moved to Wiredtree in the meantime. Not because Hetzner's service or the performance of the service has been bad or lacking, but because I have decided to move to a managed hosting provider to get rid of all those server administrative tasks. You can read about the four first months at Wiredtree here. After using them for the past three years, I have to say that this is a top hosting company, one of the best and definitely not the most expensive one either.
The new server has the following specs:

Pretty similar in services & rates… The advantage is that it’s a subsidiary of my ISP, so my connections to my server are blazing fast (same network).
