Welcome to gHacks.net
A warm welcome to everyone! gHacks.net is the direct result of a thread posted on deny.de about some advanced search options that the Google search engine makes available.
We quickly decided to design and code a program that makes use of those advanced features and to present it to the user without the need of knowing the syntax or commands that you need to use to use them.
Advanced users have of course the possibility to alter existing searches and add more searches. We encourage everyone to post their results here in the comments or send us an email so we can have a look at them and implement them in our program.
The program will be soon released in a first version. Stay tuned, there is more to come.
Update: The program is no longer available, but the web blog itself is up and thriving. We recently celebrated the site's six anniversary with many more to come in the future.
Ghacks has grown from a new tiny site to a popular technology news blog on today's Internet. The site is highly popular and publishes roughly five articles per day. Up until now, more than 11,000 articles have been posted on the site, with roughly 1600 being added to the site every year.
The majority of articles are software reviews, tutorials, troubleshooting guides, web browser reviews and tools, as well as general Internet related news topics.
You can check out some of our popular categories by following the links at the top of the page or in the right sidebar. The most popular categories are listed at the top. They include Windows, Firefox and Google Chrome.
You can also use the site search at the top right to find specific articles of interest, or subscribe to our newsletter or RSS feed for your daily dose of technology related news.

Reviving the first post… So ghacks started as a Google users help blog?
It started out as a web page for a program that made advanced Google Search operators easier to access :)
I’m not sure how to submit a topic on Ghacks, so I hope I’ve got it right by posting it here. I just bought a flash drive for my WinXP SP2 Home edition. As soon as I inserted it, my computer froze and locked up. I’ve tried it in all my additional USB ports and it remains the same. Even if I insert it prior to boot up, Windows stops and freezes. My webcam works fine and the memory stick light comes on, but the `New Hardware Detected’ indicator doesn’t even show. I don’t have anything else taking up USB ports other than my webcam. I’ve tried uninstalling/reinstalling all my USBs and that didn’t cure the problem. I’ve tried it in other computers, not my own, and it worked fine on them.
This seems to be a mystery, which nobody seems to have an answer for?????
I was thinking we as consumers we are buying CD, the RIAA seems to think we are just ‘renting the CD’s.’
If we as consumers walked into a dealership to buy a car and they told us ‘who and could not ride in our car’s where and where we could not go.’
Would we buy the car?
I think not.
So why is it the RIAA tells us we have to buy 4 CD and where can and can not use them.
Did they spend the cold hard cash to buy those CD’s or did we?
We did so who are they too tell us what we can of can not buy and then do with what we buy!.
They did not pay for it we did!.
Well, hacking and warez are two different things in my opinion. I think the whole commercial system is getting out of hands. The companies try everything (even questionable tactics like rootkits) to \”secure\” they products from being copied.
In my opinion this is going way to far. They should not be allowed to interfere with computers at all, e.g, install software the user is not aware off.
DRM makes it impossible for everyday users to copy a cd they bought to their mp3 player or car cd player without breaking the law. This is unacceptable to me and lots of people think the same.
DRM does not matter to the tech crowd, they know the tools, they know how to handle such files. What the industry is doing is that they put pressure almost solely on the people who buy their media.
The industry should start using their brains and not their muscle. Thats my opinion.
What we see at the moment is an effort to put more and more pressure on the comsumer. Got shared folders ? Man you must be a pirate. You want to listen to the music at home, in your car and in your mp3 player ? Purchase it three times, if you copy the cd you are a pirate.
Pressure will rise even more and I predict a real big bang in the future..

My longest living site is http://www.deny.de a english security forum which exists since 1998. Long time ;)
I have other sites as well but they are in different languages so probably nothing you would like to visit, unless you are speaking german of course :P

Thanks for the compliment thunder. I don´t know what happened to primehacks, he was my first link partner and suddenly took the site offline.
You site rocks, Love your freeware and all your info, Do you know what happened to “Primehacks” the sites closed and a game site is in its place.
