As soon as the news was out that the infamous Pirate Bay was starting a new user driven video portal the first wave of visitors hit the official Video Bay website only to find out that there was nothing there except two lines stating that the project was currently in closed beta and that the service would be available for the public when it is done.

There is however a way to take a sneak peak at the Video Bay by adding digits to the url. You will not see the interface or other parts of the website but only the movies. Please consider that these are most likely test movies and that you will not find spectacular content on those sites. The interface itself is pretty basic as well but I think it is worth to take a look every now and then and see how the interface and services develops.

The main url is thevideobay.org which will only show the two sentences saying that this site is currently only available to beta testers and developers. If you however append a number behind that url you will be able to access the videos currently hosted on the site. So, thevideobay.org/20/ will open a video on the website with the option to play it.

You will have to change the numbers manually to cycle through all videos on the site. I personally think it is not worth to view them all but some might find it entertaining. Every number will show the video play but numbers not associated with a video will not play.

Specialized Youtube clones are appearing every day. Some are relatively weak while some offer videos targeted only at a certain niche that is grateful for not having to search Youtube for the videos that they would like to watch. TeacherTube is one of the better Youtube clones. It concentrates solely on the teaching aspect of videos which means that you will only find videos on TeacherTube that “teach something” to the viewer.

This targeted concept is working pretty well I think. Teachertube already got quite a big userbase who are uploading several videos every minute to the website.

You do find lots of interesting categories at TeacherTube some specially designed to suit the needs of a certain age group, others dealing with a subject like math, social sciences or sciences.

Several ways to interact with the community are used. You can vote for videos, comment on them, add them to your favorites or use tags to find new videos. It is also possible to embed videos in your own website which is the same feature that Youtube offers.

I did a search for computer and decided to list the first five results on this page to give you a better understanding of what you will find at Teachertube. Here we go:

3D Modeling & Animation for Children

A Bit of PC Animation History – 1985

Animation with Flash MX2004 – ani. masking

Basic Computer Components

Basic Computer Troubleshooting

This sounds pretty interesting to me, I would probably watch all of them except the Flash MX2004 one because I do not use this program at all.
