This article concentrates on logons for Windows XP and a future article will do the same for Windows Vista.]]> The default logon screen of Windows XP looks plain and boring and many users would like to change the background image and other elements of the logon screen to have a better looking interface. There is a sweet and easy way to replace the existing logon screen with a custom one by either downloading pre-made logons or creating one by yourself.

You do need the software Stardock Logon Studio which is available for Windows XP and Windows Vista. This article concentrates on logons for Windows XP and a future article will do the same for Windows Vista.

Once installed you can already change the default logon screen with three default ones that ship with the software. The logon studio has an option to randomize the logon screen whenever Windows starts. I have collected nine beautiful logon screens that can be used with logon studio to change the default Windows XP logon screen.

You need to place the downloaded logons into the Logon Studio directory creating a new folder in root for them. The default directory is C:\Program Files\WinCustomize\LogonStudio. Just create a new folder and move all of the contents of the downloaded logon into it. After that refresh the the list of available logons in the program itself and the new logon should be visible.

Once you have selected a suitable logon screen you click on Apply and Ok to set this logon screen as the default one for your operating system. Just click on an image to be taken to the download page of the logon screen. You can browse through more than 4000 logon screens at the wincustomize website.

I do rotate them every 15 minutes on my Windows desktop which looks and feels great. Whenever I come upon a new wallpaper site that offers quality wallpapers without – to much – spam and ads I post it here at ghacks because I know that many of my readers also love wallpapers. The following site offers more than 8000 high quality wallpapers, the only bad thing about it is that it only displays eight of them per page.

The site that hosts all of these wallpapers is called wincustomize, surely known by some of you. There are two ways of downloading wallpapers from the site. The first one means that you simply click on an image that you like twice and it will displayed with a low resolution in your browser.

The second has a cap for visitors. The download cap is currently 20 megabytes which should be fine for about 10-20 wallpapers. Just click the download link on the individual wallpaper page to download the wallpaper in all resolutions that are offered.

I did not register to the site but it seems that you get a higher cap, or even non at all, after registering to the site. Registration is free for the first level. I suggest you try it out if you want to download more.
