Ripping websites means to create a local copy of a website for offline browsing purposes. Creating a website mirror can actually be a good idea for several purposes. Even with all those caches that save website information many get lost when a website goes into Nirvana. It’s also nice if you need information on a computer with no Internet access, or only temporary Internet access, say an HTML course for example.

I don’t like to install a lot of toolbars in Firefox (or Opera) because they tend to decrease the screen size that is available for the website. Sure, there is a way to display and hide the toolbars whenever I need them but this is not that practical and I tend to forget about them pretty fast.

Many Internet websites have the habit to divide articles in tiny little chapters that sometimes require you to click ten or more times on next to read the full article. If you want to reread a part you have to click back to do so. I once again came by a website that used this technique, it’s Information Week and their article Top 60 Little-Known Technology Web Sites. Ghacks is unfortunately not in that list.

I would like to write about a subject that I have been investigating lately. I’m talking about links in general and how they should look like and how they should not look like. This is solely from a webmasters point of view so forgive me that I’m not taking the users into account here. Links play a important role in search engine rankings, they are probably the most deciding factor when it comes to search engine rankings.

Hundreds of websites have been prepared or compromised to take advantage of the Benazir Bhutto Assassination in Pakistan. Users searching for news on the assassination using search engines like Google or Yahoo might land on a website that has been specially prepared to download Javascript code that in turn downloads additional malicious software to the host PC.
